This little book could save your life, seriously. Though it is obviously aimed towards people with a predilection towards outdoor pursuits such as hiking, mountain climbing, sailing (etc) it does also make a point of saying that you never know when this information may come in handy. Written by a former member of the SAS, who would be the ultimate authority in extreme survival, this book is full of practical information on how to survive anywhere in the world. It details information like how to find a source of water, or create one yourself, how to treat injuries, how to make a shelter, ways to stave off dehydration, what plant forms are edible. I bought this book to identify the little blighters who hop and fly merrily around my garden. It's a great book with good images and text. The only bird book you'll ever need.

I read the reviews and decided to buy the book based on the high proportion of 5* ratings. I was not disappointed! The book is the size of an average paperback, has a protective clear plastic sleeve, glossy pages, stunning photographs & great summaries on key facts of interest about each bird - definitely the best £7.99 I've spent in a long time!

This is a brilliant boxed set, i managed to get this for under £45 which is incredible given the books individually are priced at £13 each !! The attention to detail in these books are second to none - buy it now before the price goes back up !!

We have purchased MANY barbecue books over the last few months, and had really high hopes for this title based on the reviews. Sadly the book is very much geared to the American Market (and why shouldn't it be - the author is American himself) and I feel does not measure up well to our homegrown barbecue manuals. There are LOADS of recipes, but I feel that we will only try a few.

I am absolutley thrilled with this book.There are some fantastic simple and easy recipes and the locations are beautiful..making you eager to go to each one. A must buy for those family outings.Highly recommended.

Get past Wilson's gurning, mugging puss and you have an excellent reference book. This book will teach you everything you need to know about rigs, hooks and knots. It is clearly set out with good clear photographs and instructions so it is useful for beginners and intermediates alike. Read this book on the train and practice at home during February & March when the shore fishing in this country is shocking. Just knowing two or three of the knots and rigs in this book will improve your fishing no end. Good knots do not break. You'll keep more fish and have more confidence in your casting. I thought this was disappointing. For me there is not enough detail on the chosen birds and no real advice. I thought the layout was chaotic and really lacked in being a useful tool to learn bird calls and songs. To me it was like leaving a microphone out and reeling off whatever calls came along. My advice is that this package is not a useful learning aid and not entertaining or well put together.

Lovely pictures, facts up to date and very useful, fits in pocket nicely. My only gripe is that there is no information regarding the birds eggs perhaps this is intentional to help stop egg collectors pilfering nests? but it would have been hard to cram any more information into the book. It gets my 5 stars!

I echo what others have said about the quality of this book. It is indeed a good piece of writing and the only reservation I have - and it is somewhat tentative - is that there is perhaps too much about the writer and not enough about the crows and rooks. Put briefly, next time there could be more Corvids and less Cocker. As an aside I would say you learn as much if not more about rooks and crows in the late Roger Deakin's book, "Wildwood" (2007).
