A fantastic book, couldn't put it down, have read all of DKs books but this is by far the best. Experienced a rollarcoaster of emotions reading it!! The characters stay with you long after you've finished the book. A must!!!!

What a discovery!!! I bought this book as part of some research for my own book and I was very pleasantly surprised.

I never made the connection that Mr Strauss was the co-author of the much lauded Motley Crue's "The Dirt".

Ok, the stories in this book may seem a bit stretched or hard to believe, but hey, it's Americans we are talking about. What I have to say is that reading this book made me look back on my failures and successes at picking women, and it was almost uncanny to read word by word where I went right and wrong.

The Game is a bit of a cross between Queer Eye For The Straight Guy cum Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus cum any rock and roll tale of debauchery you care to think of.

There is so much to say about this book, and I am sure a lot of it has been said already. This was an impulse buy after being intrigued by the title and the cover and I was not disappointed.

The main character Juliet Ashton is an author who after having her daily column (from Spectator) of observations from the Second World War is made into a book and taken on its promotional tour, she seeks another topic to write about. Her biography of Anne Bronte not being quite as successful as she would like to have hoped.

Juliet receives a letter from Dawsey Adams, a resident of Guernsey, the only place that the Germans occupied during WW2. What then starts is series of correspondence backwards and forwards as you discover what happened to Dawsey and the ... Read More:

I thought his last book was a real clunker and had modest hopes for this one. The fact that I came back for more shows how much I had previously enjoyed Peter Robinson's books but this one, like the last, is a thinly plotted mess where the characters are just inserted into the plot willy nilly with no coherent reason other than that they are "old friends" or the like. It is becoming increasingly obvious that Mr R is relying on old fashioned impressions of Yorkshire and/or England and this novel doesn't ring true in any way (allowing that one needs to suspend disbelief in most crime fction to some extent). The police procedure is all wrong and this investigation just would not be allowed to carry on in this way. One last thing, like most contemporary crime writers, there is a frustrated ... Read More:

I have been a Kernick fan since book one and have been looking forward to reading DEADLINE on my recent holiday. It didn't disappoint.

It's a fast-paced, well-characterised thriller, once again set around the grim streets and suburbs of London.

Right from page one, a Kernick trick I think, I was hooked. I read the book in a couple of days relaxing by the Pacific Ocean.

Twists and turns, a little bit of gut-wrenching violence, and a grandstand finish.

Mark Billingham has some serious competition !

Recommended.

This book is excellent. Parents, who want lasting discipline, in the true sense of the word [teaching], look no further. As other reviewers have said, there is no quick fix. If that's what you are after, God help your kids!

As an author, I also found the techniques and suggestions easy to pick up and assimilate.

It is relevant for school, home and life in general.

We can't get enough of this kind of material.

Here we have two narrators. One, a pleasant, measured, accepting, concerned, humane onlooker with no instinct to meddle. The other is deeply implicated, damaged and dynamite. The story is slow in building, drawing you in. A perfect recreation of the naughty nineties with topical explanations, wise words and hints of what is to come. Every sentence counts. Another classic Barbara Vine - a gift!

I loved "The Island" and as soon as I had finished it I ordered "The Return". I found the parts about Sonia really boring and couldn't wait to get the the Spanish Civil War in Part 2. I didn't think the book "worked" and I doubted if I would even finish it. However, I perservered to the end and found it all very predictable. After "The Island", a very disappointing read.
