Not a bad effort, and very cleverly written. In very brief summary, it is a story about a man's gradual, reluctant separation from his wife, following the 911 New York tragedy. The wife returns to London to start her new life and he regularly returns to visit his son. More and more the separation grows and he has to try and fill his life with something new - no, not another woman, but cricket. It seems an odd story combination, but underneath there may be something more sinister that he is totally oblivious to, but his wife is not.

There were parts I found thoroughly engaging, particularly when Joseph O'Neill was recounting trips into London. His research was obviously top-notch as I have worked around some of these parts and ... Read More:

I don't care to get into the controversy over whether or not this is part of this food movement or whether it sends the right message... all I wanted to know when I read it was whether Delia presented simple, day-to-day recipes that I could use when I was in a hurry and wanted something nice for the family.

Totally disappointed. Why? -- very simple: I do not need to spend money on a book to tell me to read the back of the packet of pre-packaged foods in the supermarket.

I don't have anything against the occassional use of a ready meal or a frozen ingredient, but why would I want to spend money for a batch of recipes that basically tell me nothing more than the information on the packaging tells me: open, pour, stir in a can of... ... Read More:

As a story and an idea this is a book that leaves many others trailing in its wake. However, where other books catch up and surpass this one is through the writing itself.
A serial killer with a difference is a novel and original idea yet a difficult one also as there are many roads to be chosen and much to explain. This story moves at varying paces throughout and often leaves a lot of confusion and questioning. Scenes of suspense often take too long to be acted out yet scenes of monotonous unimportance take quite the opposite. Character interaction is below par, even for Dexter himself, who of course needs little and many possible avenues of investigation go overlooked. From this I would also say that the book itself is far too short and would be much ... Read More:

I could not get past the first 60 pages of the book. I guess i was expecting more than a bunch of air heads the author has attemepted to create. I have to admit i never read DWP but saw the movie and loved it. Maybe i was expecting too much out this book?

Fantastic book, especially as it was set in the village where my great grandmother used to live and is buried in the churchyard of St Eigons Church. Once again, Barbara Erskine has written a wonderfully, descriptive story, enabling the reader to imagine themselves in Rome and Wales. I love her present day characters and how thier lives entwine with those of the past. Please hurry up and write the next book.I have to say my favourite book is Lady of Hay.

As a Harvard graduate (not HBS) I loved this book. Fantastic writing, lots of anecdotes, and very clear explanations of what they really teach at Havard Business School. But it's more than that. It's a trip through one man's attempt to find what he wants to do with his life. Delves Broughton was a very successful journalist, and he walked away to spend two years doing an MBA, which cost him $170,000. He finds that he isn't like most of his fellow students, who are obsessed with money. When the author goes to cover an anti-globalisation march, he sympathises with the protestors. Instead of writing an analysis of Time Warner, he choses a organic blueberry farmer. When his fellow students are off working over Spring break, he's at home in Boston working on a novel. ... I'm not going to write a huge review of this here, suffice to say if you liked Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Haunted Knight, the Dark Knight Returns and all those sort of Batman stories you're in no way going to be disapointed by this. In fact you're probably going to love it. One of the greatest Batman stories out there. Be sure to read part 1 first!

I bought this book due to there not being many practice questions available elsewhere for the UKCAT. However, this book contains several mistakes, some of which have been corrected by pieces of paper placed into the book on the appropriate pages. Some mistakes remain, including graph lines labelled the wrong way round etc. (making these questions impossible to complete).

The quantitative reasoning section gives an unrealistic idea of the difficulty of the actual test. The abstract reasoning section was somewhat useful, but there were not enough questions in the section to justify buying the book.

If I had not bought this book, I would have felt guilty for not preparing as much as possible for the UKCAT. However, I feel I would have scored ... Read More:

Richard Morgan erupted onto the SF scene six years ago with his blistering debut novel Altered Carbon, a hard-edged thriller set in the 26th Century. Morgan has made his name with intelligent, intriguing ideas about science, technology and sociology, based around unflinchingly violent protagonists and often withering analyses of the human condition. The Steel Remains is his first foray into fantasy, the first book of a trilogy with the unofficial name A Land Fit For Heroes (which I assume is ironic, because this land is very definitely not fit for heroes, although it desperately needs them).

This world is a harsh, dirty and grim place. Some years ago a race of sentient lizards - the Scaled Folk - crossed the western ocean from a dying homeland and attempted ... Read More:

One of my resolutions for 2008 is to broaden my literary horizens. After studying English Lit to A-Level, my interest has fallen to the wayside. So on my quest to better myself through literature, I read "The Old Man and the Sea", which I just couldn't relate to. So imagine my relief when I started reading "The Great Gatsby". I'm so glad I perservered with classic books!

TGG is a great read. It's fast-paced from the outset, and gripping towards the end - I couldn't put it down. I even tried to convince family and friends to read it afterwards; but to no avail - so if I manage to get even ONE person to read it from writing this review, then good! Definitely recommended.
