Books : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2 - Unabridged 6 Audio Cassette Set)
J.K Rowling not only astounds us with another great instalment in the Harry Potter saga, but Stephen Fry mesmorises us with his fabulous reading, again! Fry is the perfect narrator to this wonderful audio cassette. He brings the charcters to life, and turns the story into a living dream! He even manages to scare you with the "headless voice" (embaressing to admit, but its true). Though i did not enjoy the book as much as the others, this audio cassette is absoloutly fantastic, and i go to sleep listening to it many a night! An absoloutly worthwhile investment, especially if you haven't the patience to keep reading the books!

I first became a fan of Horace Rumpole courtesy of my countryman Leo McKern's portrayal of him in the television series. Later, another friend gave me a collection of Rumpole's stories, which I could not put down. It was with this in mind that I bought Mortimer's latest Rumpolian offering.
In short, Mortimer ensures that Rumpole's practice is never dull. I loved it.
Rumpy is up to his usual best. He charmingly remembers a former client made good in order to convince that client to donate to a charitable project without hesitation.
He is a friend to Claude Esrkine-Brown QC, after poor Claude is left by the former Portia of No 3 equity Court, and latterly Her Honour, Mrs Phillida Erskine-Brown QC for a romance with Rumpole's ... Read More:

I found this book very entertaining and surprisingly informative. In contrast to 'Notes from a small island' which I thought was extremely dull and gave up on, I couldn't put this one down.

I have recommended this book to several friends and have no complaints!

Probably Britain's best current performer. Less recognized than many of his less able contemporaries; also less pompous and a lot more fun. Johnny Vegas described him as the only other comedian he'd like to be.

Books : Dad's Army: The Honourable Man/High Finance/The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage/A Stripe for Frazer Vol 3 (BBC Radio Collection)
This Volume contains the radio episodes "Something Nasty in the Vault", "The Showing Up of Lance Corporal Jones", "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker" and "Sorry, Wrong Number". They were adapted by Harold Snoad and Michael Knowles, from the television scripts by Jimmy Perry and David Croft.

This release is a must for any fan of Dad's Army, because it includes the only surviving version of one of the lost television episodes. A number of the tv stories were made in black-and-white, only to be thrown away by the BBC when television changed to colour in 1969. One of these was "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker". Only the 1974 radio version, which is presented here, remains as ... Read More:

This is guaranteed to put a smile on virtually anyone's face.

Bryson's dry humour & witty observations of life's absurdity coupled with Kerry Shale's excellent delivery make this an easy winner.

The basic material is also very interesting so a wining combination all round.

I had this in the car & found myself sitting listening to it long after I had arrived at my destination - it's that good!

Having read and enjoyed all of Brysons books, I decided to buy the audio version of my personal favourite; A Walk in the Woods, primarily to listen to in the car. However I found that the narrator, Kerry Shale, ruined the experience somewhat. Essential characters to the story, Katz, Mary Ellen etc, are given ridiculously over-the-top accents, when non are necessary. It seems to me that the narrator has focussed solely on the humourous aspects of the story, and emphasised them to a cringeworthy degree. Despite saying this, his reading of Brysons narrative is just about bearable, but this is probably due to the quality of the writing. Had the characters been portrayed to a more realistic level, this would have made a quite entertaining purchase, but, as it stands, it ... Read More:
