I took this book on holiday with me and I feel a week by the pool is a perfect way to enjoy this book. I really enjoyed the pace of this work. I felt it gave just the right amount of detail without dwelling on unimportant facts. For me it was constantly enthralling. As a 23 year-old I certainly learnt a great deal. The detail is far greater than the BBC series that accompanied the book. My only doubt is whether had I lived through the times discussed I would have found it a little lightweight.

Great for car journeys, well produced, and lots of interesting stuff. Recommended for children 8 plus. My 10, 14 and 18 year old all enjoy these Naxos books, and so do their parents. Well done naxos.

This audio CD book, alongside with other Naxos educational CDs for children, is absolutely fantastic. It contains loads of information, so adults interest is guaranteed as well as children's fascination. It's a must for curious little minds. Presented in an easy listening format, it educates and enterntains at the same time. Boring car journeys became a highly enjoyable and educational experiences in our family since Naxos CDs were purchased. Being non-fiction, they can be listened to over and over again, offering a chance for the child to remember and/or understand more details each time.

His last broadcast was made in Feb 2004, after which he retired. He died the following month in his 96th year. It is simply staggering to consider the prolificacy and quality of these Letters which were faithfully produced against such an unforgiving deadline over so many years. All the more incredible it is to consider that this work constitutes just a fraction of the man's overall output,in many fields. A biography written by a political insighter. Very readable. Minor mistake on the election period in the Weimar republic. Can be recommended if you want to read more on Churchill otherwise the best short biography is Bests: "Churchill: A study in greatness".

When I'm sick of Radio 4, I occasionally listen to this. No modern politician that I can think of can compare with Churchill; he makes you realize just how poor at speaking many of them are. Of course he had far more dramatic subject-matter. And this CD helps you to imagine what it must have been like in the war, when you might have listened to some of these speeches on the wireless. They can be very moving. Some of them are read by Winston S. Churchill - Sir Winston's grandson - because recordings of the man himself couldn't be found. Also I've noticed in the bookshop you can buy this CD as one in a set of three.

the thing i love about horrible histories are that i can read them over and over again. as a child i was addicted, and still today i read them. the books give information easily enough for children to undersatand, and don't make you fall asleep. all the books are fab.
