As they say in Dragon's Den, "..let me tell you where I am". My experience - I am new to both Apple and Logic 8, and invested in both as technology was now able to cover my lack of formal music training. After a months of 'playing' it was clear that the logic Pro 8 manual which comes with the package is well written, but does not offer up any projects or walkthroughs for you. This book does just that. I thought that I was using maybe 25% of Logic's capabilities starting "raw" and self taught, but having only gone through 3 lessons so far on this book, I am surprised at what I did not know, even on basic inputs. I bought this book at the start of my degree course and i would highly recommend it for beginners, as it explains everything in detail for you, it has helped me greatly in understanding how sound works and how we record today.It gives detailed diagrams throughout the book which makes it easy to explain the technical side of things. Great book, would definately recommend this book, every sound student should own a copy .

I must say I found this book an excellent read. I'm currently self producing an album of some of my songs and got this book in the hope that I'd get some quick tips to try and do a half decent master of the mixes. What it actually did was make me go back to the mixes and question the decisions I'd made to get there. The author's technical knowledge is extremely high and has definitely given me a clearer understanding of the scope and limitations of the gear at my disposal. More important though is his insistance on not always using processing as a crutch and encouraging you to LISTEN before and after plugging in the standard fallback eq/compressor. This little book helped me decide to make the switch from my current MP3 player and go for an iPod. It's so clearly written, so full of great advice and tips that it's been better than any user manual could possibly have been. Written with the usual wit and flair one expects from Rough Guides, this is an absolute must for anyone who is thinking of buying an iPod. For once - the blurb on the cover of a book is actually true. "You need this book". An excellent little guide indeed.

If you want to get to grips with using the advanced features of Logic Pro 8 than this is the book for you. To get the most out of it you should have a good basic knowledge of Logic Pro 8 or have read "Logic Pro 8 and Logic Express 8" by David Nahmani which is a companion to this book and one of the very excellent Apple Pro Training series. The tutorial approach in this book is excellent and right from the word go you're making music. The book is clear and concise from beginning to end. The tutorials are thorough without a step missed out and given to you in bite sized pieces so you never feel lost or overwhelmed. This is a good read for musicians and producers alike. It gives an insight into the prospects of the future of music, but it lacks the practical advice of The Future of the Music Business.

I bought this as an Amazon recommendation as I had to learn how to operate a new live (church) PA system (lots of vocals, guitars, keyboard, drums, etc., and a very mixed "audience"). It has both encouraged me and challenged me, and certainly resulted in a better first attempt to use the new system. Well written, easy to understand for the non-technical, and probably more in it than my initial needs. Other books in the series have helped as well. A great investment - inexpensive and comprehensive.

I've just purchased this on the strength of the reviews above. I'm glad I was forewarned about the grammatical errors - I'm surprised it went to the presses in this state. The guy may not know how to write, though, but I reckon he knows how to mix. So far I'm finding it interesting and informative reading.

The book itself is awesome! Really good quality and nice scans. Even if you just want to see nice pictures and paintings worths buying it! Sadly my one damaged during shipment, for others I suggest to contact amazon to send it packaged more secure than they did to mine. Great book for every fan!
