Discovered this by accident in a old fashioned book store and love it. OK so the humour is a bit naff but this guy seriously knows what he is talking about and how to put it on paper so that the only thing on your mind after reading a chapter is reaching for the camera to put it into practice. Quick tips that can really help improve the pictures that you take with whatever equipment you have to hand without blinding you with science.

Having recently taken the plunge to buy my first Mac computer, although the operating system (Leopard) is easy to use, the way of doing things is slightly different. To help me fully migrate, I purchased this book. This book is a mine of information covering all aspects of the Mac OS, from the very little things like minimising windows to the more complex things like Automation etc. It explains everything in great detail and has lots of screen grabs and illustrations to help. A wonderful little book that really opens your eyes to usability issues that are so obvious but are still overlooked. Time and again a light bulb lights up in your brain as you read this and you think god it is so obvious why didn't I notice that before? The great thing is you can read this book in one sitting and finish an enlightened usability expert ready to impress your colleagues with your new found knowledge.

This small book is broken down into 52 sections. I'm writing this review after section 6 (I got the book 2 days ago). I know SEO is moving fast, and that book publishing has a lead-time, but given that this book was only published 5 months ago, in Jan 2008, a lot of the information is already looking dated. Section 1 illustrates the popularity of Google by quoting Hitwise Search Results figures from December 2005. On their website the current research date is May 2008 - it appears to be updated monthly, so surely they could have included a figure that is a little more current? Section 5 advises readers to go to a link for the Overture Keyword Assistant. Instead you get Yahoo's welcome page for their sponsored listings. ... Read More:

If you are looking for a light introductory guide to Windows Vista then look no further. If you are looking for a book that will get you out of trouble, then you'd be better looking at (for want of a better expression) more serious titles.

I think I must need a 'Total Idiot's Guide' as this was not what I thought it would be. Being a complete beginner with dSLR, I thought this book would be a step-by-step guide on 'How To....' I was a bit wide of the mark - although the book says a lot about why you should do this over that, etc it left me lost on how to actually do it. So I'm using my camera on Auto until my Nikon book arrives. Let's hope I'll have more success with that one.

Having bought other boooks of Scott and read online reviews I was confident that this book would be up to standard. Before I read this book 6 weeks ago I knew next to nothing of photoshop; now I am a competent user who knows many methods and "tricks" and am able to produce quality pictures. The book is a pleasure to read, gives one the desire and ability to develop one's skills further and I refer to the book again and again. Buy it!

This is by far the best Dreamweaver book I've come across, its made a huge difference to the quality of the sites I build, The CSS tutorials are spot on and make you pick up things you thought were not possible. The author has a great understanding of how a 'rookie' web designer thinks and feels so hats of.
