I was a late convert to the world of Buffy. Like many I had watched it as a teenager, enjoyed it, and then been persuaded by who knows who, that it was not something one should be proud of watching. Then I watched Serenity and thought it was great, backtracked to firefly and loved that too. Then one day somebody told me that the same guy that did those, did buffy. "WHAT!" I said, "That cant be!", half clouded by the fact that everybody said that Buffy was rubbish, half trying to cover up my embarrassment of not making this ling earlier.

So to cut a long story short, I watched all of Buffy in a very short time, and I loved it. And then I watched Angel and I loved it less, but loved it all the same.

Before Mr. Whedon ... Read More:

When I read that Joss Whedon was collaborating with the Buffy comic people I jumped out of my seat. This is season 8 but in comic format, and boy is it good...I have just started reading "No Future for you" which is the second book collecting the next 5 or so issues. Buffy at war with more than just demons! Dawn has for some reason become a giant! Xander a general type of the slayer army! Willow can...well I havent given much away here and dont want to risk giving any more. Suffice to say that there are more than a few twists here including some old and terrible characters from the Buffyverse. Take it from me once you pick this book up you wont be putting it down until the very last page. Also Angel has a similar thing going on with a Season 6 comic ... Read More:

A year or so ago, my friend introduced me to Vampire Knight, and I used to read it online, but, when I found out it was out in book form, I bought 2 volumes of it. And of course, I still enjoyed every moment of it.

The basic setting is a boarding school (Cross Academy) attended by both humans and vampires (who, by the way, are not the undead, just a seperate species from us - also, their existence is a secret in this universe, like it is in most vampire novels). Vampires attend the Night Class, and humans attend the Day Class.

The Chairman of the academy, Kaien Cross, adopted a young girl called Yuuki 10 years ago, when she was left out in the freezing snow, and attacked by a crazed vampire - however, she was saved in the nick of time ... Read More:

No graphic novel collection is complete without some titles, like Watchmen, Knightfall, Sin City and Hellboy!!
I first started reading Hellboy before the first movie came out, I was curious, got one to try and now have them all (and the novels and figures and statues). Seed of Destruction is the first in the series and it jumps straight in to Hellboys life in the B.P.R.D. (bereau for paranormal resreach and defense, kind of like a supernatural CIA). You just see he is a demon working for the agency, and he has a cool coat and a massive stone hand. But as the story goes on, you find he was summoned by Nazis and Ra ra rasputin to help win WW2. But he was saved by Proff. Bruttenholm and now fights for the good guys! Along with Abe Sapien (fish guy) and Liz (Fire ... Read More:

The fifth volume of the brilliant Death Note manga opens with Light in jail under suspicion of being Kira. In order to get out of this predicament he gives up the Death Note and all memories associated with it and when the murders continue while Light is in prison L decides that Light can be released but must remain under his constant surveillance. As the murders continue it becomes apparent that Kira seems to have changed tact as rather than make the world a better place they seem to be targeted at the world of big business.

Death Note continues to fascinate and entertain and the addition of a more self motivated Kira is a nice if not terribly original addition to the story. Also another good thing about this volume is that rather than reveal the identity of ... Read More:

I have recently discovered Manga and having recently completed Osama Tezuka's incomparable Buddha series Buddha: Kapilavastu (Buddha), thought I'd look for something a little more contemporary. Intrigued by it's premise, I had picked up the Deathnote novel Death Note: A Novel: Another Note (Death Note): A Novel: Another Note (Death Note), without initially realising that it had been inspired by an existing Manga series, so this seemed like the ideal place to start.

It's fair to say, I was blown away. The premise is elegantly simple; A teenage prodigy finds a notebook belonging to a Death God. The book enables him to kill anybody he chooses, anywhere in the world. This single idea spawns a complex morality tale, about justice, punishment and how to build a better ... Read More:

Having introduced a second Kira in the last volume, this volume concentrates on her and how she effects the investigation. Misa herself is somewhat annoying but quite likable and her Shinigami Rem shows us not all Death Gods are as unfeeling as Ryuk. Although still highly enjoyable and thoroughly entertaining, I did not enjoy this volume of Death Note as much as I have the previous volumes; although it is still better than anything else I have read and is well worth five stars. I cannot put my finger on what is wrong but throughout much of the beginning and middle of the book, it seemed somewhat lacking but thankfully it does pick up toward the end and the cliff-hanger ending will almost definitely want to make you seek out the next book.

The third volume of the Death Note manga carries on from where the previous volume finished with Lights house heavily bugged with his father and L watching every move he makes. Light manages to find a way round the surveillance but L still suspects him and so enrolees in the same collage as Light in order to take his measure.

Death Note continues to be an excellent series with great illustrations and is very well plotted; the twist at the end of this volume is especially great if a little predictable. The volume is full of great moments, such as Light and L's tennis match, and the Shinigami Ryuk is quickly becoming my favourite character in the series. Death Note continues to be one of the best things I have read in ages.

Although still a marvellous read the previous volume of Death Note had something of a filler feel to it but thankfully this sixth volume sees this excellent manga series back on top form. Having identified that the new Kira is among seven individuals working for Yotsuba Light, L and the rest of the taskforce must find a way to get the evidence of how Kira kills his victims before the move in on the seven. When Misa is sent to get close to the seven the Shinigami Rem complicates things by revealing itself to her and Misa comes up with a plan of her own.

This volume is probably one of my favourite to date with some great action and some nice plot twists. It is also good seeing the Shinigami again after there brief hiatus in the last volume, and we also learn some more about ... Read More:
