This book has been written in the sense of a dialogue between master and disciple reminicent of the Corpus Hermeticum. However in this case the reader may or may not find these imposed questions useful or, indeed annoying... This is a book which is either going to hit a chord, or will seem like utter nonsense. From my point of view as an average reader, I have found it very important because it explores concepts of this mind/ego (a double) which is inside of each person which needs confronting in someway. For a personal change book, I found it rather a hard read. The book to me is, well, complicated. The seven habits make sense and all, but the whole process seems to involve making layers of change, with each layer being a whole book in itself. Not a very quick read, and I'm not saying its not worthwhile and all, it's more a book that you have to be willing to work with. Readers who like less sophisticated personal change books might enjoy The Sixty-Second Motivator.

I love this book. If you only ever buy one "parenting" book, make it this one! It is written with warmth and humour and the author's obvious love and respect for children shines through. He is not concerned with "managing the child's behaviour" but rather with developing the psychological skills she needs to successfully manage her own life......and to this end, provides us with the ways in which we can assist in this process. He is also not concerned with "guilt tripping" parents for any shortcomings in their parenting skills....what a relief! This is a very clear and easy to read book and if it were compulsory reading for all parents, would be parents and teachers, our future generation would be in very safe hands! I highly recommend it.

How to talk to anyone is written in a straight forward way, giving you tips on how to carry good conversations. It highlights things that, when you think about it, is very very true, especially when you think of people you DONT like speaking with, but dont really see why not. nice short chapters that lets you pick up a few things every time you pick up the book.

Then one day a good friend of mine (who is a Cambridge Rocket Scientist turned Internet Consulting Millionaire) said "hey did you ever read How to Win Friends and Influence People, that book's just amazing, it's hard to think of one that's better!" now put in the context that I've seen this guy pay $5000 for a book and MP3 course I naturally stopped and said "So you're telling me that this $20 or something book is worth more than the $5000 dollar courses? c'mon? no way?!?". Having read this book I should say from the outset that this method did not work for me, however, I have lent the book to over 5 friends of mine (Sorry!) and all have managed to as soon as finishing the book!! I can honestly say that this is a very honest and well thought out method for quitting and am very happy I read it, because, ever since finishing it, whilst I haven't managed to break the habit... I have hated every cigarette since!!! Well Done!! If your a smoker... Please try this!!!

I am very sceptical about 'self-help' books, they seem to state the obvious and make you pay large amounts of money for it. However, I bought this on sale (sorry Paul!) as a buy three get one free deal - I couldn't find a third book I liked, I knew I needed to diet, and it was there. It sat on my bookshelf for months, unread. One particular Sunday, when depression over my weight and my job had made me hit an all-time low I was so desperate I read it. Cover to cover, in one sitting, to my surprise. I burst into tears at one point, embarrassingly, when a particular chapter made me ask myself how I could be so - neglectful? uncaring? - of myself. The claims made for this book are far too wide and the best bits of the approach are not new. For instance it is now widely known that you should not argue with someone with dementia who has become lost in time and space, but "go with the flow". (Reorientation only works in the early stages, and with great respect and tact). This approach will not work in later stages, as seen in the documentary Malcolm and Barbara. This approach will not prevent people who survive eventually having severe brain damage with little ability to respond. By all means let's throw away the stressful attempts to drag someone into our world. And let's know the person well so that we can communicate for as long as possible.
