By now, it's a given that an Oliver Sacks' book is worth your time and close attention. His particular talent lies in making the science interesting without becoming a "pop-science" writer. He does this while mixing in experiences of his own and some personal reflections which are anything but intrusions. While some of his books are essays on selected individuals ["An Anthropologist on Mars" is an example], this one has a very special focus: the minds that make music unbidden.

Music arising in the mind without prompting may seem a common enough occurence. The advertising industry ... Read More:

I looked at many different wedding planners before deciding on this one, and I'm really glad I did. The folder is beautifully presented with loads of sheets for notes and checklists, to help you get your ideas together and keep yourself organised. It is split into loads of sections, each one with a pocket for bits and pieces you've collected, and a little plastic zip-up folder at the back for keeping important bits nice and safe. There are some lovely photos, lots of great tips, and the best thing about it is that it's a ring binder, so you can add plenty of extra bits yourself. So many of the other planners are spiral-bound so you're restricted to fitting everything in the pockets provided. However, with this you can add extra sheets, photos, all your paperwork, everything. ... Read More:

"Your Inner Fish" truly merits ample praise for being one of the best-written books on science I've read in years. It also ranks easily as an early, leading candidate as one of the finest books published this year. In clear, concise, and quite vivid, prose, this marvelous terse tome recounts in spectacular fashion, the incredible saga of the evolutionary history of our human body. Vertebrate paleobiologist and anatomy professor Neil Shubin is our enthusiastic, expert guide through this amazing journey into our body's primordial past, weaving with utmost brevity, a most compelling, and intricate, tale from fossils, genes and developmental biology. A fascinating trek through these aspects of evolutionary biology that represents too an intriguing personal scientific odyssey from a novice graduate ... Read More:
