I have lived in London a few years now, and I love being able to find the really interesting and off the wall things to do in this fab city. I bought this book for a friend, and then spent the next 2 days buried in it myself, and I started to write down ideas to take back to me. After 5 pages of my notes on the book, I decided it would be far simpler to get myself a copy! it lists everything from places to eat, to museums you'cve probably never heard of, together with lots of free activities and it isn't expecially aimed at tourists which is refreshing. A really different take on London and I'm a big fan.

Sequels aren't meant to be as good as the original, are they, but having enjoyed David Long's SPECTACULAR VERNACULAR last year I had to have this one, and I'm not disappointed. Far from it. In fact for anyone bored with all those London books which just go over the same old ground again (Tower of London, yawn) these two books have been a revelation to me. Packed full of places and buildings most of us don't even notice, and with every one photographed and explored by an author with a real talent for the subject, they're original, funny, and above all fascinating in terms of the detail, the history and the personalities they describe and which together make London what it is today.

Camping is a somewhat re-visited activity and, over the years, I'm used to 'AA' books, which are, generally, reliable and offer a list of places to troll through, so I grabbed the book off the shelf without really looking at it! Fool that I am. Now, this is a book, right?... and you are meant to be able to read it easily, right?... OK, yes I wear 'readers' but the print is still somewhat small and the font could have been better, but my gripe is with the symbols for what each site offers...they are truly small and difficult to distinguish, especially in low light. The symbols are the key and worth a thousand words, so should be crystal! AND...what about dogs?...OK it has a symbol for 'dog exercise area', so one assumes dogs ... Read More:

a very good atlas, good handy size, easy to read reference, and clear and up to date road/station/building points. bought this for use in the car and has not let me down. thought it might be squishy in between pages, but isnt at all.

I'm not a big reader and had never before read a Bill Bryson book but was bought this for Christmas by my parents. I took it with me on holiday as essential beach reading and as soon as I started it, found it VERY hard to put down. Bryson's writing style is easy to read and extremely entertaining whilest being factual and informative. I have now started to read his 'Down Under' book and am quick becoming a big Bill Bryson fan!

Since I bought this moleskine city guide I don't think I've ever left it at home. It has proved an invaluable way to make little notes about the city I live in. For example, I have been able to record quirky little cafes on side streets, found by chance, and would probably never be found again without somewhere to note it all down. I can see this turning into a way to collect my musings and witterings about London. A lovely product that I will keep for life - or at least until it is falling apart.

What set this 'AA' version apart from the others for me was the 'free magnetic tax disc holder' offered with the deal, however on arrival the addition was missing and there was a clear sticky trace where it had once sat. I have contacted Amazon and hopefully the replacement they are sending will include the tax disc holder, however it is not impressive how these 'free gifts' are obviously not protected from removal prior to shipping. The atlas itself is very clear and easy-to-use. I cannot raise fault with the product, just the service itself.
