Let me start with on a good point and say that michels technique is a true work of art
Its only when you have listened to the tapes a few times(and you will need to in order to completely digest it) that you realise how clever he is at making his point.
It really is as close as you can get to painless language tuition.
When I had ingested this course i was convinced that I could speek fluent french, however it is only the introductory course so you will be needing the avanced course after.Which is also exellent, and much more involved.
Now for the bad bit:
I can not for the life of me understand how Michel could have let the course be published with the female american student!!
SHE IS A MORON.

My 14 year old daughter and I are very impressed with this audio language course.

There are twelve units, the basic units last 8-10 minutes.
The style of teaching is superb.

First the words you will learn are spoken.
Then there are pauses where you repeat them.
Then you listen to a conversation, then you get to repeat them again.
I have found this to be highly effective.
My daughter and I could not speak any French before listening to this.

We listened to the first unit, now after a matter of minutes we can hold a conversation saying:

Good day/hello.
Good evening.
Good night.
Good bye.
How are you/are you well?
Fine/I'm OK.
Thanks.

I have read a few books on Spanish verb tenses and grammar, but this one has got to be the best of them all. If you read through this book step by step and do the written exercises as you proceed, you will understand verbs in no time at all.It is easy to follow and set out in a reader friendly way.

I'm not a French speaker or learner myself, but bought this as a gift for a friend who is tackling the language. I'm sure they'll enjoy it as it's quite fun compared to the dry language texts I had to wade through at school. It's interesting to see that some French idioms are quite similar to ours but have an unusual slant. For example, where we have 'Pushing up the daisies', they have 'Eating the daisies from the roots up'; we write 'Rubber cheques', and they write 'wooden' ones (like taking a 'wooden nickel'?). Others are quite surreal 'Falling backwards into apples' sound quite painful, but to the French this is a soft landing. Although it's amusing, the text is scholarly enough to be useful to the serious student and the cartoons are excellent. You can't argue with the ... Read More:

The book that I have eagerly rated at 5 stars is one of the most comprehensive pocket-edition grammar booklets I have ever purchased.

Consisting of one hundred and forty-eight pages, John Seely's reference book is divided into grammar and punctuation sections in alphabetical order . Each category is enriched by several examples that allow readers to understand how to apply a general rule within a context ; what is more, there is a very explicable sub-category dedicated to the commonest grammar mistakes many a student - and writer - may happen to commit during his/her writing .

Being an English major , I have come across a multitude of grammar books , and I have always had to operate a selection to discern which ones would be useful to me and which ones might ... Read More:

I have bought a number of spanish courses, from Michel Thomas (god bless his soul) to GCSE bitesize. Yet still I could not piece together a simple sentence, let alone a conversation. I have one or two friends who are fluent in speaking spanish, but when I tried to speak I turned into a blithering idiot - the words just wouldn't come out, my brain just wouldn't work fast enough. Then I read the reviews on quickstart Spanish and thought - I must give it a go! Even though my bookshelves are already groaning under the weight! However, it's the best thing I've bought so far!I'm not saying that all the other stuff isn't equally as brilliant, but this just pieces together all the bits that are floating around in my head. It's fairly basic stuff, like ordering things, and counting, money and time ... Read More:

As someone with absolutely no knowledge of Spanish, I found this a useful, if a little slow and possibly even patronising at times, introduction to the language.
It's total aural, so there's no plodding through grammar books for those who are averse to such practises. The course heavily leans towards providing you with useful vocab and constructions for use on holiday - if you're after a more solid, general start to learning Spanish, I'd probably head towards Oxford's 'Take Off' course. But, if all you want is an easy short course before going to Spain, this is about as good as you're going to get.
There's a lot of repetition in the course, which is always helpful, no matter what level your language skills, and it builds up gradually and in a logical way. The course is across 3 cds, and comes ... Read More:

After a year of total despondency, this great small book has really launched my dyslexic son's reading. Not only can he now read, but he wants to read and is happy to tackle new words with confidence. Brilliant.

I liked this book. It is written with Bryson's usual witty and engaging style. It is a book that is absolutely of the high standard any reader of Bryson's previous books will have come to expect.

Having said that, this book is certainly not for everyone, even if you have thoroughly enjoyed many of Bryson's previous offerings. I have an amateur's interest in language and this book provided me with an informative introduction to its history and quirky nature. If you are not interested in the subject I think you will probably find this book very dull indeed.

There are some downsides to bare in mind, even for those with an avid interest. Firstly, it contains lots of list of words in the text which can be tedious, to the point where I was skipping whole paragraphs to get to the point. The ... Read More:
