I got this in what I thought would be a vain attempt to learn English before a trip to France. Not having spoken a word of French since my GCSE's (and even then it wasn't much!), I was not confident. The package, like other language products, comes with both audo cds and books. What makes the difference here is the layout, and the general presentation. It is extremely easy to pick up and learn. This then gives you the confidence to continue. There isn't anything here that hasn't been done before, but it has been put together incredibly well.

I'm not a French speaker or learner myself, but bought this as a gift for a friend who is tackling the language. I'm sure they'll enjoy it as it's quite fun compared to the dry language texts I had to wade through at school. It's interesting to see that some French idioms are quite similar to ours but have an unusual slant. For example, where we have 'Pushing up the daisies', they have 'Eating the daisies from the roots up'; we write 'Rubber cheques', and they write 'wooden' ones (like taking a 'wooden nickel'?). Others are quite surreal 'Falling backwards into apples' sound quite painful, but to the French this is a soft landing. Although it's amusing, the text is scholarly enough to be useful to the serious student and the cartoons are excellent. ... Read More:

Let me start with on a good point and say that michels technique is a true work of art
Its only when you have listened to the tapes a few times(and you will need to in order to completely digest it) that you realise how clever he is at making his point.
It really is as close as you can get to painless language tuition.
When I had ingested this course i was convinced that I could speek fluent french, however it is only the introductory course so you will be needing the avanced course after.Which is also exellent, and much more involved.
Now for the bad bit:
I can not for the life of me understand how Michel could have let the course be published with the female american student!!
SHE IS A MORON.
I have never in my ... Read More:

I've never been very good with language. English often defeats me, Spanish confuses me, and what French I can remember was absorbed through osmosis from seeing hundreds of films set in Paris and fancying my teacher. Any kind of language course is going to help, even something as simplistic as this, and though it's relatively interesting to work through the exercises, its difficult to know exactly who its for other than an absolute beginner, and there can't be many of those, that like me, didn't at least try to memorise the verbs and tenses as homework. I don't think there's enough here to bluff your way through a Gallic holiday and wouldn't something more in-depth begin with these principles anyway?

I have read a few books on Spanish verb tenses and grammar, but this one has got to be the best of them all. If you read through this book step by step and do the written exercises as you proceed, you will understand verbs in no time at all.It is easy to follow and set out in a reader friendly way.

Perfect in every sense of the word if you'll excuse the pun... This has all the latest words, abreviations and newly added slang.

This is ideal if you need something to refer to whilst playing scrabble with a sore loser / poor English opponent that likes to challenge your words to A-Level students needing the latest concise index.

With this book you are also given the opportunity to register online to use the dictionary for word lookups on the run.

Personally though I like the whole layout of the book as it is printed in colour so that you can clearly see what your trying to reference with extreme ease. There is really not that much that other reviews nor this can state about how good a dictionary is but the overall print and bind quality is something ... Read More:

I have bought a number of spanish courses, from Michel Thomas (god bless his soul) to GCSE bitesize. Yet still I could not piece together a simple sentence, let alone a conversation. I have one or two friends who are fluent in speaking spanish, but when I tried to speak I turned into a blithering idiot - the words just wouldn't come out, my brain just wouldn't work fast enough. Then I read the reviews on quickstart Spanish and thought - I must give it a go! Even though my bookshelves are already groaning under the weight! However, it's the best thing I've bought so far!I'm not saying that all the other stuff isn't equally as brilliant, but this just pieces together all the bits that are floating around in my head. It's fairly basic stuff, like ordering things, and counting, money and time etc, ... Read More:

The book that I have eagerly rated at 5 stars is one of the most comprehensive pocket-edition grammar booklets I have ever purchased.

Consisting of one hundred and forty-eight pages, John Seely's reference book is divided into grammar and punctuation sections in alphabetical order . Each category is enriched by several examples that allow readers to understand how to apply a general rule within a context ; what is more, there is a very explicable sub-category dedicated to the commonest grammar mistakes many a student - and writer - may happen to commit during his/her writing .

Being an English major , I have come across a multitude of grammar books , and I have always had to operate a selection to discern which ones would be useful to me and which ones might be too prolific and ... Read More:

Great value for an introduction to Spanish, if you want to learn by repeatition rather than the basic grammer rules. Ideal if you're off on a Spanish jaunt and require enough Spanish to get by, however don't think that you'll be fluent by listening to a CD.

A good choice for downloading to your ipod (other mp3 players available!)and listening to on the way to work or in your lunch break.
