Like many succesful books debating religion vs science, dawkins uses logic and reason to 'debunk' popular monotheistic religions, along the way revealing weak pro-religious arguments and the rather queer(in the context of strangeness not homosexuality) morals which they claim they derive from their 'holy' books. Dawkins starts with the 'God hypothisis' and throughout the book systematically disproves each couter argument along the way, encorperating british witt and humour to the mix of what is already truely an exhilirating and awe inspiring read, that will allow you to open your eyes and peer contently through that narrow slit in Dawkins hypothetical burka.

This deceptively slim volume of 159 pages is a book of three parts and eight chapters. It has been primarily written as a refutation of the arguments to be found in chapters 2 and 4 of Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion'(chapter 4 from which the book takes its slightly ammended title), as Ward explains (p10):"...because those are the chapters in which he enters into the territory of philosophy, of arguments about God and the ultimate nature of reality. That is my territory...". The book however goes well beyond the bounds of its remit and quickly builds into a comprehensive, sophisticated and nuanced defence of theism as a rational worldview whilst simultaineously critiqueing and exposing the philosophical weakness and naivity of the reductionist ... This is a curious book. On the positive side, Alexander provides a lucid and mostly persuasive account of the evidence for 'descent with modification', and a vigorous statement of the compatibility of science and Christian belief. Atheists like Dawkins, he repeatedly insists, are simply reading their own ideological convictions into the evidence. Scientists who are theists are engaged in exploring the glorious complexity of the created universe, and nothing in their discoveries is any evidence that Christian theism is incorrect. He draws on the evidence of convergence to suggest that evolutionary history is not as much of a 'drunkard's walk' as Gould supposed. And he also notices, as too many critics of 'creation science' have not, that it was Social ... Read More:

This is not a bad book at all, and it is written (on the whole) in an accessable style. It stands out from other similar books by attempting to clarrify what the author considers to be the real issues. It also scores by just focussing on one aspect of the theism/atheism/agnosticism debate, and obviously this is the aspect about which the author is most informed. There was also some discussion of the philosophy of science, which is all too often omitted or taken for granted. However, one of things that occurred to me, whilst reading this book, is that rarely do we get any discussion of the more fundamental point of what constitutes evidence. This is not as obvious as it first sounds. For example, in medical research, there are clear criteria for what constitutes ... Read More:

As an atheist, I was drawn to this book through the endorsement of Richard Dawkins - an endorsement I find baffling. As a number of reviewers have noted this book does not remotely deserve to be bracketed with The God Delusion and other sober critiques of religious faith.

The biggest clues to Harris' agenda are revealed by the 'authorities' he invokes to buttress his opinions: the discredited pro-Israeli 'scholar' Daniel Goldhagen; the tub-thumping neo-conservative Thomas Friedman; the Zionist Alan Dershovitz (a man demonstrably shown to have manipulated historical sources in constructing a fervent defence of Israel), and Samauel Huttington.

It is not suprising given these bed-fellows that Harris allows himself to entertain the most bellicose, 'intolerant', ... Read More:

In a world filled with crime and death, war and poverty, many seek the salvation of religion to overcome.
We hear many stories about cults in America, stories of teenagers leaving then people they love to stay in communes where they are brainwashed, humiliated, abused and used.
This is the true accounts of three sisters who had no choice but to be born into one of these cults, the children of god.
From a very early age these poor children were systematically abused physically and mentally by the adult members of the group.
How these girls triumphed over these sick people astounds me and I congratulate them and hope that their lives are not tainted by these evil people.
This cult is still going and the story of these girls is a warning to us all. This is not easy reading ... Read More:

This book covers the history from the beginning of Christianity until the 6th century AD.
First all the early different mainstream directions are described until finally during the 4th century AD the orthodox win and rewriting history.
But after Constantine's support and Nicaea 325 AD the in-fight gets even more severe, a mix of political bickering, who is nearer to the emperor is mixing with theological interpretations. Doctrinal discussions about the duality of father and son, the `one substance' interpretation and later including the Holy Ghost as trinity are explained.

Henry Chadwick is describing all the political power play, intrigues and corruption.
- Bishop's still mainstream this year are considered heretic soon after, often not based on doctrinal differences ... Read More:

Here we see glimpses of Einstein the man, not the scientist. As science moved further away from the ideal that it was supposed to benefit mankind in a positive way, Einstein believed the mission of science was to work for mankind's well-being. He will be sadly missed, a great man that thought with his heart as well as his head.
