At a scale of 1:250,000 the map provides a reasonable degree of detail. Has a good index and shows places of interest and camp sites. The best thing about this series of maps is the polyethelene material they are printed on, which makes them waterproof, tearproof and virtually indestructable.

I normally buy DK guides to plan all my travels, as I find the rough guide and lonley planet guides pretty useless to get a good impression of a place or to find decent hotels, etc. I bought the Pyrenees & Gascony from the Vacances series because there was no specific guide from DK for this area. Although this book provides little information on accommodation and the usual topics such as weather, etc., it does provide fantastic details on local produce and the lesser known sights, with a wealth of pictures that will make you look forward to your holiday. I will certainly get more books from this serie for my future travels to France. If you have been to the area before or know where you will be staying, then this is the book to get!

I've been walking in the Pyrenees for nearly three decades now and always stayed away from Andorra because of the shops and tax haven reputation, but I happened to find myself there for family reasons this Summer and a friend gave me this book. What a find! Andorra doesn't have the best mountains in the Pyrennes, but they're not bad and the refuges are great. The book, too. I wish there were more English language guides to the region of this calibre. The maps could be better, but the descriptions and the background information and the itineraries are all excellent. First time I've come across this writer, but I see he has other guidebooks and I'd be ready to try any of them if my travels happen to coincide with his. I might even make a special ... Read More:

A tag on the back cover categorises this book as `Travel/History' (personally I was hoping for more of the latter in the content). Flipping through the pages, I found the font a little bigger than could be wished, and the plentiful photographs were almost all attributed to `... Ministry of Tourism' &c. So this book could have fallen between two stools. And I fear that, to some extent perhaps, it has. But, on the other hand, it's an agreeably lightweight overview of European Microstates; or, if you prefer, a not-really-filled-with-many-in-depth-useful-details-but-plenty-of-background-information travel guide to the same. A fantastic book, which you really should buy if you plan on seeing France. The amount of information in here is vast, and yet readable (I read it cover to cover as bed time reading to plan my travels!). On the one hand it is full of practicalities such as telephone numbers, opening hours, travel information etc. but it also uses good descriptive language so vivid as to give you a good 'feel' for places, stirring up mental images of those Parisian cafes and Provencal meadows that possess a certain je ne sais quoi...
