The main city map was perfect, we ripped the cover off and took it everywhere with us. Simple to use and fairly concise in terms of the info about each entry. Nicely divided into sections for shops, food, highlights etc. Gave some nice ideas for walking tours. I personally would recommend this one over most others for its ease of use and simple entries.

As most Lonely Planet guide books I have read, this has also been of great help to me. It really increased my joy of expectations. And they were fulfilled.
I love to really study my guide book weeks in advance of my departure. If I am going away on the spur of the moment and I do not have time for thorough study, I usually by another guide book, besides the Lonely Planet guide, for getting the quick overview and use the Lonely Planet guide for a reference book (looking-up things).
I only give it 4 stars as the map maybe could be a little bit better.

This book is a real gem.
I've been to Amsterdam 12 times and everything it described about things I already knew was spot on. It also opened my eyes to many parts and aspects of Amsterdam that I can't wait to explore on my next visit.
It is written in a friendly humourous style (combined with strict accuracy) and gives extremely useful links to websites with even more information, as well as to local sources.
There is a lot of information in here that you won't find in any other guides, and it has good coverage of the usual tourist stuff aswell.
OK, some reviewers have said the map isn't perfect, but most people would buy a decent street map anyway - and this book gives you some useful lowdown on that too.

This is an excellent book if you need a guide to Brussels, but the reference to Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges in the title is rather misleading. All three places are in a section of the book called "Trips out of town", and are not covered in any great detail. The first 200-ish pages of the book cover Brussells, but the section on Antwerp covers 20 pages, while Bruges and Ghent get only 13 pages each.

If it is Bruges you are looking to visit, then you would probably be wise to look for a different guidebook.

Entering the busy, teeming Ypres (Ieper, as we have it) through the Menin Gate (de Menenpoort), any visitor will involuntarily believe the cosy old city has retained its erstwhile elegance unimpaired.
By 1917 the Ypres as Edmund Blunden saw it, had been reduced to smithereens. What remained was an eerie, godforsaken 'catacombed sepulchre', a spectre of a place the rare remnants of which appeared to him 'so evidently, but impossibly' medieval.
If anything, the place conjures up all the obvious reminiscences of Flanders' glorious Middle Ages, and first-time visitors will stare their eyes out here as they do in, say, Bruges or Ghent or Lille.
But there's one large but. As much as the surrounding region the present-day Ypres is a reconstruction. ... Read More:
