Harry Potter is an exciting story about young witches and wizards at school, and a story that every child knows, and many adults too. Therefore, reading the French translation is a great way to improve your skills at reading in French. Obviously the story is better in the original english, but the French translation is still incredibly well thought out. Words unique to the books are translated by new words that help to capture the feeling of the original, and there are also many examples of idiomatic expressions that you would otherwise never know until you were at a more advanced level. Reading in a foreign language helps you to become confident on your own in the language, and the French translation of Harry Potter is a great way to get started. ... Read More:

A review by Luciano Lupini.Camus reached fame with his elaborations about the concept of the absurd (the purposeless search of the meaning of existence in a universe void of any)in three works: The Stranger, a novel; Caligula, a teathrical opus; and The Myth of Sisyphus, a recopilation of philosophical essays.
In his second famous novel, The Plague, we find a different Camus. Perhaps, more concerned about moral values and solidarity between human beings, in the face of massive destruction.

The plot of the novel unfolds in the city of Oran, Algeria. The central image has to do with a rat invasion that causes a plague epidemy, with disastrous consecuences. Here we find metaphorically portraited the invasion by the Nazis in 1943 of non ... Read More:

Suite Francaise consists of two short novels, originally intended to be part of a set of five. The author, Irene Nemirovsky, was a Russian Jew living in France, and was tragically killed in Auschwitz before her project could be completed.

The first of the two, 'Storm in June', is concerned with a variety of characters fleeing Paris as the Nazis occupy France as part of World War II. The second, 'Dolce', is about the German occupation of a small village in central France. Some characters feature in both stories, and it is clear that, had Nemirovsky lived to complete all five, the storylines of this disparate group would probably have come together.

The characters are realistic although often not particularly likable - certainly ... Read More:

This is a charming, beautifully understated work that leads you into the lost world of 1920's rural France as seen through the eyes of a child. Read it in French for the full experience, in English you will miss the nuances, I borrowed it from a neighbour who asked me what I thought of it, I could only say that I found it charming, gently amusing and very witty. If anyone tells you the French lack an appreciation of subtle humour then get them to read this book.

Although so aptly called 'No Way Out', this book does open doors for it's readers by keeping shut the door in the room which, for these three people, each from a different walk of life, is their hell.
As you read this play, many things appear to you, subtly said, and the wonderous comments it makes sink in even days after you have read it.
This book has encouraged me to expand my existentialist fiction reading even further, and has put forward fantastical possibilities and amazed me with its subtle wit and theories.
Enjoy!!
