In all types of history there are defining moments. A moment that is so extraordinary that you have to see it again to believe what you have just seen. It sometimes takes time for the dust to settle to appreciate such a moment.
This comic is one of those moments.
The Dark Knight Returns took a tired out superhero genre and re-injected it with the modern paced style we see today. A comic that in fact saved the superhero himself. The multi-layering of story lines in this epic tale is almost cinematic in its construction.
Maybe a little dated now, but at the time it re-defined everything in comics and the way superheroes where percieved. If you are a fan of Batman, this should be the cornerstone to your collection.

Let's be honest, any Pratchett fan will have to admit that Moist von Lipwig looked to be the Discworlds next big character. Going Postal was one of TP's best "newer" books and that was almost exclusively down to the lovable rogue that is (or was) Moist. Where Vimes had began to grow stale, up popped Moist; another anti-hero persona, but from a completely different angle.

Making Money was set to capitalise on the new character, but in this it failed. Just like Vimes before him, Moist has become dull, with his 'key to the city' (as Postmaster) and lack of worthwhile opposition the sense of suspense that kept him on his toes in the first book has pretty much vanished.

The books problems don't end with Moist. Whilst reading through ... Read More:

Okay its finally here. Ash's story, the whole and bloody hell of it all.Be warn tho, to those who think they have read it all and nothing could shock them, Ash's past has had no punches pulled. Its brutely and bloody and very shocking. You will be taking on a horror story and wonder how Ash didn't just turn his back on everything and walk away. But to fully understand his HEA you have to read the past and see Ash in way ( I hope) no-one should ever be treated.
I could tell you more but to do that would be to spoil this book. He's past is 428 pages longer and you may need a break after reading them but come back to read the rest of the book and his HEA.You see new side to Apollmyi and its nice to see that when the chips are down you you can tell who your friends really ... The last few books in this series, in my opinion have started to loose their way. And this book is no exception.
The first four or five books from the Hersey series were brilliantly written, but this latest one does nothing but let them down.
I was really looking forward to this book but just like after watching the Phantom Menace I feel let down.

Toll the Hounds, is not just dark and compelling, it also easily ranks in the top 3 of all the the tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen so far, and not only because of its spectacular, if somewhat confounding finale.
There are some gripes about this being too slow paced, and yes if one were in it for the big battle scenes and non-stop action, well, I can see how this would not be to one's liking.
So then what makes it one of the best tales so far for me? First of all our reunion with some major and some lesser characters from Gardens of the Moon and Memories of Ice and the return to a Darujhistan as we have not seen it before. Erikson finally takes his time for some serious characterisation, developing plot lines that add to the texture of the cities of Daruhjistan ... Read More:
