This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

This title passes as 'OK'. It does teach some practical situations that can be missing from the somewhat grammar based 'in three months' courses, but there are several disadvantages to this course: 1) Vocab is given in lists at the end of each chapter rather than 'as you meet it' like in most courses and other 'three months' books. 2) Grammar is introduced in a rather odd way, esp. verb tenses. The conditional, which is often at the end of most beginners' courses, is the third one up after only the present and the perfect etc. 3) There are so many tenses packed into the later chapters that you feel dizzy with them all. 4) Other 'three months' books split the material into 12 or 13 chapters so you can do one per week over ... I liked the long dialogues; it was nice to keep coming back to the same people - you really felt as if you were getting to know them. It made the langauge learning bit really easy.

With a holiday to Italy coming up, preceded by several long car journeys, I bought three language CDs to listen to in the car: Earworms, Learn in Your Car Complete Language Course and BBC Quickstart and I'd rate them them in that order, Earworms being easily the best and getting 5 stars. I found all of them easy to use in the car, although in the end I felt they were better suited to short journeys rather than doing a lot in one go. Unlike the other two, which are aimed at the holiday goer, Learn in Your Car is a complete language course, just as it says on the cover, and is good value for money. However, I can't review it thoroughly, because I never got past the first disc. It's basically a little dull, just lists of vocab. The lessons follow ... Read More:

OK so I'm guilty of not reading all the information carefully, but I ordered this course on the basis of the reviews so I was a little disappointed when the course arrived minus the cd/cassette element which the reviewers had found so helpful. Usually, Amazon makes it clear if the reviews refer to a different edition but on this occasion there was no warning.

Italian is not my first foreign language I have ever learnt. And I don't really understand why people would turn this course down. I have seen quite a few language materials available here on Amazon. There are two types of them: 1) "super-modern" solutions (Michel Thomas, Learn Italian in your car) or "modest-size" materials (phrase books, short self study courses -e.g. "Teach yourself Italian") - these are, probably, make good choice for beginners or one-time travellers to Italy; 2) "traditional" courses - some of them are obsolete and boring but not all of them. Whilst mentioned materials from the first type can make you progress in relatively little time, give self-confidence or only satisfy your needs occasionally, only "traditional" courses can really teach you the ...
