This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

The first thing to say is that the Michel Thomas way is perfect for me. I did his Spanish course and it gave me the motivation to take conversation lessons. The big problem is not the saying or reading of a language, it is the listening to others and understanding what they are saying that is difficult. So, having completed the Italian course I feel very confident with the structure and cognate vocabulary, and I just need to practice. Having followed Michel Thomas's Spanish course in the past I have to say that I found the Italian version less comprehensive than the Spanish. There seems to be a lot of time spent on the will and would, and the stressed 'r' on the word endings. As with the Spanish course you have to get past the students mistakes, ... Read More:

This title passes as 'OK'. It does teach some practical situations that can be missing from the somewhat grammar based 'in three months' courses, but there are several disadvantages to this course:
1) Vocab is given in lists at the end of each chapter rather than 'as you meet it' like in most courses and other 'three months' books.
2) Grammar is introduced in a rather odd way, esp. verb tenses. The conditional, which is often at the end of most beginners' courses, is the third one up after only the present and the perfect etc.
3) There are so many tenses packed into the later chapters that you feel dizzy with them all.
4) Other 'three months' books split the material into 12 or 13 chapters so you can do one per week over the three months. ... Read More:

has a lot of work for groups or writing, so no good for self-study. SO many mistakes its unbelieveable (e.g. missing CD tracks, missing answers, extra answers to questions which dont exist, spelling errors just to name a few).

This pack comes with CD, course book and answer key with tapescript. you have to buy the Activity book with all the grammar work seperately. This activity book, saves my rating from being a 1 star. it is a good book with lots of practice. the course book is rubbish. even the feel is out of date. it says it is the 2nd edition published in 2006, but the photos look like they come from the 80's and the layout is not very pretty. certainly not wotrth the money, but good luck if you can find another intermediate course!! also i wouldnt ... This book has a lot of useful exercises to do at home between classes to practise all the new grammar that's been introduced in the different chapters. It also has a key to all the exercises so you can check them yourself.

A word of warning though. The instructions aren't always very clear, particularly not to beginners, so you might need a teacher to explain them to you. There are also no explanations so it's not always easy to see what you've done wrong and why it's wrong. Furthermore, there's a lot of typos, both in the main part of the book and in the answer section so don't always accept something as wrong, do ask your teacher if you think it's supposed to be right.
