Yes, I like Russell Watson so am a bit biased, but I really do think that this is worth a read.
His descriptions of the antics he got up to as a child and young teen will have you in stitches and I defie you not to well up when he talks of his illness.
I've read many biographies and some come over as me,me,me, look at how great I am, but not this one.
Well done Russell, look forward to the next installment in a few years time.

PS Got my copy signed last Friday!!! Thanks Russ

I hope the documentary 'Man on wire' now out in the cinemas, will bring more people to read Petit own's account of his thrilling 'coup' in between the two towers. Somehow, because in the book we follow him from beginning to end without distractions, we feel totally involved and right next to him on the wire, sick in the gut for him, sweating with fear, a physical reaction to reading his fascinating account that the film does not match,
It is a must-read for anyone interested in beauty, poetry and freedom, daredevil and acts of sublime that defy all words. The stricking opposite of what some other sort of people did with the very same towers.
It will bring you to tears for more than one reasons. An absolutely unforgettable book.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book when it came out and it's only now that I am writing my own review.

I love every page of this book and recently I went to her only british book signing at Waterstones and I could not decide which page I wanted her to sign! (She is even more beautiful and amazing in person!!!) Buy it and then treasure this book forever, if you love Dita, Burlesque, old movie star glamour, lingerie....anything girly!

What a fascinating character!

One of those books that I was reluctant to finish as the last page drew nearer.

Prior to reading this book I only knew Peter Ustinov as the delightful character Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie films. But I learned that he had a very long career in the theatre and that his talents seemed to include almost all areas in it.

His background alone makes for interesting reading. He is the child of Russian immigrants who settled in England but his (very talented) ancestors came from far and wide and included countries such as Ethiopia and Israel.

Parts of the book is written in the style of a soul searching dialogue between Peter Ustinov and himself, hence the title. He ... Read More:

Stage Mum is an honest, down to earth and entertaining read that also manages to touch on the serious issues that parents of "performing children" suddenly find themselves facing - often with very little support. I wish this book had been around when my daughter was cast in a West End show as I'd have been far better prepared for the chaos that took over our lives for 5 unforgettable months.

If your child has West End aspirations, or you have ever wondered about the lives of the children you see performing in professional theatre then do read this book. It is incredibly honest, both from the point of view of Lisa's feelings as a mother and in her descriptions of the day to day practicalities of having a child working in a show for half ... 9.Handstands in the Dark: A True Story of Growing Up and Survival by: Janey Godley

This a quite remarkably badly written book. The subject matter is certainly there (abused as a child, marries into a gangster family, runs a pub in a dodgy area of Glasgow), yet the book fails to engage or provide a narrative thread.

The central issue is that of the author's abuse as a child and all that that then leads to as an adult. However, the story as written is so confused, with neither understandable sequencing of events, nor any kind of proper end to it, that the book descends into a series of badly documented vignettes, largely featuring "20 years after" speeches which cannot conceivably be accurate.

Not worth buying other than for 1p from your local market stall. Even then, think twice.

It was a pleasure and an exciting thrill to read about Fred Astaire's life in his own words up until the late 1950s, at some points you really did feel like you were there, even when he talked about places or films you've never seen or even heard of! The ups and downs of Astaire's life are thought provoking and inspirational. There are parts where everyone can fit into Astaire's shoes; he seems to reflect on everyone's life in some way or another. This is a brilliant autobiography, it is one of the best I have ever read and I recommend it to all Astaire fans or people who are interested in taking a career in the theatre or on the stage.
