43.The Prophet by: Kahlil Gibran
1926-12
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Prophet
The Prophet is about a mysterious religious thinker who is about to leave for his native land. Before he goes, many people have just one question to ask him. In a very few words, he tells them his accumulated wisdom primarily in a nondenominational way. The only exceptions come in the references to rebirth. The essence of each brief lesson is that we have to step outside of our own perspective to see things in the way that God does and wants us to.

Let me give you an example. When someone transgresses either man's laws or God's laws, we tend to condemn the person harshly and focus on punishment. This is like treating the person as though they have fallen below some level of what it is still to be human. Yet no one does anything worse ... Read More:

44.Practical Criticism - A Study of Literary Judgment by: I. A. Richards

Books : Practical Criticism - A Study of Literary Judgment
Practical criticsm is possibly the best book on poetry criticsm ever written (the only book I know of that draws comparison with it is Ezra Pound's ABC of Reading, and even that falls short).

Anyone wishing to know something about poetry should read this book.

My baby girl has loved this book since she was 3 months old! It's hard to find books that infants like, but something about the colorful illustrations really appeals to her. The book is just the right size for small hands and the cardboard pages are easy to turn - my baby learned to turn pages (and chew on books) thanks largely to this book. Also, I love the story and am never bored by it, which is not true of many other books for really young kids. A nightime favorite for everyone in our house!

This book was a bit of a disappointment following the terrifying "Divine Revelation of Hell" with all of its graphic descriptions of the torments of the eternally damned in Hell . However what we get in the "Divine Revelation of the Spirit Realm" is little more than an extended Biblical tract, padded out in Big Writing with long passages from various parts of the New Testament and from some of Mary Baxter's other books.I was expecting a detailed description of another guided tour of the supernatural world by Jesus, but this is not forthcoming and Jesus plays a significantly less direct role in this book . Instead we get Mary sitting on the proverbial cloud in the sky ,observing all the highly militarised comings and goings of the invisible demonic realm ... Read More:

49.Emile (Everyman's Classics S) by: Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Books : Emile (Everyman's Classics S)
JJ meanders around education and religion and the best way to live, and as such, with his wonderful eleloquence, it's a highly recommended book; but understanding his life and times would definitely assist the reader in tolerating the meandering fantasy.
Certainly solid views on taming Religion, (credited to a Savoyard Vicar), and moderation and common sense living, and the natural wholesome ways on bringing up children leave one stimulated and impressed. But the man who gave all his kids away to a foundling home indulging himself like this in such detail ... got a bit tiresome.

50.Hand of Thrawn: Specter of the Past 1 (Star Wars) by: Timothy Zahn
January 01, 1920
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Hand of Thrawn: Specter of the Past 1 (Star Wars)
THE STORY:
Fifteen years after 'Return of the Jedi', the New Republic is struggling with internal discontent and the Empire, under Grand Admiral Pellaeon, is but a remnant of it's former self. Into these troubled times three power-hungry Imperials create the illusion of Grand Admiral Thrawn's return as Leia discovers the existence of the mysterious Hand of Thrawn.

WHAT'S GOOD:
Zahn brings his usual high-quality style to this book and it reads very much as a continuation of the original Thrawn trilogy. One of the things I liked most was the fact that Pellaeon is a shrewd enough tactician to know when to sue for peace, which is a drastic change from the usual maniacal Imperial leaders from other Star Wars books. Zahn wrote this book ... Read More:
