We have done several walks in the book and have enjoyed them all. The instructions are clear (and updates are posted on the website), and all the information you need is in there. There are great tips on where to have lunch and this often turns into the real highlight of any walk (that long awaited glass of cider on a hot summer's day in the garden of a country pub) ... If you like walking and exploring the glorious English countryside, this is the book you need to inspire you and take you away from the London smog!

I had the previous version of this book and found it to be a great guide so we will be buying this one as we are going in August. Rough Guide are the best - they cater for people who want to splash out as well as those on a shoestring. I am consistently disappointed with the Lonely Planet books - they don't seem to visit the places they are talking about, reviews of places often don't give any info - e.g. 'the rooms are basic but clean and start at $14'. Rough Guide are the best. Time Out Vancouver is also very good if you want to know really good boutique hotels, restaurants etc, but Time Out guides aren't really all-round guides.

This is an absolute must-have if you have any interest walking. Even if you have no interest in walking you can't fail to be taken in by the consistently detailed drawings and conversational prose. Each and every page contains the most beautiful pen drawn maps, views and very accurate drawings of the Lakeland fells themselves. Further, Wainwright takes the reader through each fell climb in his own handwriting which, startlingly, justifies to both margins with not a hyphenated word in sight - a feat in itself which I've not seen elsewhere. Perhaps I'm impressed because I'm a graphic designer but I really don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this fascinating book.

A very, very good map of Venice, with lots on it. In fact, perhaps, too much. You have to read this map in advance of your trip - become adept at finding a grid reference for a restaurant, for example, or a "sight" if that's what you are on your way to see. Good: - the public transport routes are right, though not very obvious from the map, but there's an official "venice transport" map on the back. - even the traghetto routes are right(a gondola ferry - E0.50 this year, 2008) - "road" names are clear and easy to read, if you've got the right glasses on... you reach an age..... - many reasonable restaurants/bars marked, but coded by cost, which means there are 20 or so entries marked as B on the map, the grid is crucial ...
