I'm a final year French Studies student and I love this book! At this stage everyone expects you to know all of the rules and this book has been a great help to me. I would say it is a book for the more advanced student, intermediate and above. For complete beginners I would recommend the BBC French grammer book, which I own as well and they are both brilliant.

I made the mistake of ordering the ordering the 5 CD pack with the Language Pack pt.2. In fact the Pack includes the CDs. I haven't done the course yet but found the equivalent BBC Spanish course excellent.

Simply put, if you want to be a Journalist, Editor or Broadcaster then this is a book you simply have to read. What it teaches is that (country to popular belief) great writing doesn't require long words and phrases. Less is more is very much Evans mantra, and through this book he will teach how to write the best headlines and intros to grab your readers and keep them engaged. The back of the book features numerous endorsements which reads like a who's who of the best journalists of the past 30 years. Essential.

I bought this book after securing employment with a European Union institution, which would involve me living and working in a French speaking country. As a result, I needed resources to help make my French much cleaner and natural. I found it was a major part of my French improving, to the point where within 6-8 months, I could read EU Commission documents in French with 90%+ understanding. Strongly recommended, although you will need other types of book to augment your French. This book was a vital tool. I was torn between buying this, and the extremely friendly looking "555" verbs by another publisher. My advice is do not believe that because this title only has 501 verbs, it is inferior.
