This product is 'okay' I must admit that I can't really see this being of any real use for language speaking. I suppose if you are asked on Friday by your boss to fly out on Monday morning to Germany and you really want to be able to say a few words, it's okay. I would suggest the Michel Thomas range for getting you speaking much more effectively.

It's not made clear in the product description, but this CD is the companion to a book of the same name. Teach yourself Modern Greek CDs were very thin on the ground when I bought this and I was hoping to get a CD I could listen to as I drove to and from work and pick up enough Greek to flirt with the waitresses on holiday! Unfortunately, the dialogue assumes you have access to the book, so not everything is explained fully and the tracks are fairly long (5 - 10 mins), making rewinding and listening again more laborious than it need be with the CD format. Having said all this, I seem to be picking up some Greek without the book, so it must be working - and don't think there's anything more suitable on the market at present. Read More:

At this level it comes thick and fast. It isn't so much being thrown into the subjunctive (you get plenty of practive throughout at those) but the rate at which the complicated odds and ends get introduced: ablative absolute, future particple; consecutive and conditional clauses, gerunds, passive intransitive verbs, etc. These are presented almost one-per-lesson and their comprehension is essential to understanding real Latin, of course. Among this, we're hurled into Latin poetry...for which you need the patience of a Saint...the jigsaw puzzle without being shown the picture. The cds are well integrated with the book and the course moves smoothly from one to the other (don't even think about getting the book only - the cds are an integral part of the course and add immeasurably to it). There are lots of short spoken exercises which help with learning and build confidence in speaking.
