"Northern Lights" is a fantastic novel by Philip Pullman. It is the first book in a trilogy called "His Dark Materials". This book, is about a girl called Lyra, who lives in a universe like ours, but very different in lots of things. Lyra used to attend Oxford College until she finds out about "dust". When her friend Roger disappears, Lyra sets off to the North to find him with help of her "daemon" and an "alethiometer" given to her by the master of Oxford College. This book is one of those books in which someone cannot stop reading. It is perfectly written, exciting, and sometimes even scary. I not only recommend this book to children, but to every person that just needs something to be excited about.

I discovered this calendar last year whilst searching for something that had enough space for each day. I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised with how my husband has managed to actually keep track of where the kids are and what appointments are when using this calendar!! The only downside is I would like more spaces, with seven members to our family it still gets a little overcrowded, still I guess I could always invest in a second one!

As a pre-school teacher I urge you never to read this book in your setting again. It perpetuates the belief that men go to work and women stay at home to shop and cook and childcare. Reading this book to children perpetuates a stereotypical outdated image of both family life and individual roles within a family based on gender, and reading it to children sends powerful messages to them about what roles they will be expected to fulfill later in life. Rip it up and throw it away lest you construct children of tomorrow subject to the same limitations based on gender that we are today. Think hard about how you use language in your setting to construct the norms of childhood and challenge all members of staff to be vigilant when using language and reading ... Read More:

A wonderful little book. Has lift the flaps so the little ones can interact whilst you're reading the story. A simple story, but kept both my girls entertained again and again. They never seem to get bored of it. Solid and sturdy - excellent for toddlers and babies a like. You won't be disappointed.

It was a shame Anthony Horowitz left behind Alex Rider to write Ravens Gate and Jason Steed but they are good books. maybe not for the 14 and under more for adults.
Matt the hero is a great character and you will soon be backing him with his adventure.

Everyone who has read the Harry Potter series knows how fun, interesting and addictive it is to read, so the seventh book is essential for those who have dabbled in the others. Possibly the most engaging book of them all, this last edition takes a different style into what would be Harry's final year at Hogwarts. The sixth book was said to be dark but it is in the seventh that great change happens. The plot deepends enormously as do the characters, who have grown up so much since their first days. J.K. Rowling is a gift to children and adults alike. Conclusion: essential reading if you have read the others, although really that goes without saying!

Dont get me wrong its a great book, LOOK I gave it 5 stars. But I was expecting it tob be like Alex Rider of Jason Steed. After Ravens Gate I thought it would be better.
Its still a great novel and I recommend it although not for under 14.

A young mischievous boy called Max decides to seek out fun and dons his white wolf suit, but as a result of his ill behaviour gets sent to bed without supper. When in his room, it is unclear whether it his imagination, a dream or magic that send Max into adventure, but whatever the cause, a whole world grows from inside his bedroom, sending the young boy into the land of Where the Wild Things Are...

The pictures are unique and absolutely luscious; the text is simple but so very clever and the package as a whole is timeless. Everything about this book is awe-inspiring and memorable, so there is little reason to think that any child from Reception to Year 2 would not enjoy it and can easily lend itself to discussion and analysis within the class. Clear references to issue ... Read More:
