Another highly successful collection of books that give a new twist to faeries and all things mythical. Except unlike so many others of its kind, this book focuses upon the rather unlikely and unsavoury young aristocrat criminal mastermind, Artemis Fowl. On a quest to steal leprechaun gold, he holds a young faery to ransom but gets more than he bargains for as the winged equivalent of the SAS storm his plush mansion.

Eoin Colfer's genius in this series of books is injecting a somewhat tired premise with a new twist. Particularly with this first novel of the long-running series, the reader is given plenty to think about as faeries have jet-propelled wings and mythical creatures are given a gritty and very tangible edge.

Everyone who has read the Harry Potter series knows how fun, interesting and addictive it is to read, so the seventh book is essential for those who have dabbled in the others. Possibly the most engaging book of them all, this last edition takes a different style into what would be Harry's final year at Hogwarts. The sixth book was said to be dark but it is in the seventh that great change happens. The plot deepends enormously as do the characters, who have grown up so much since their first days. J.K. Rowling is a gift to children and adults alike. Conclusion: essential reading if you have read the others, although really that goes without saying!

I really enjoyed the 5th Harry Potter book and mainly for the creation of Professor Umbridge! J.K. Rowling has created such a good villain with this character, I really could not stand the woman by the end of the book and the reader could really identify with the characters frustration with this vile and unfair woman. This book really sees the main charcacters growing up and is darker than the previous ones, I thought it was brilliant.

Keep it simple, keep it fast and keep it jokey: Perfect entertainment for the mid-teens (and older).

I've enjoyed all the Artemis Fowl novels to date - and this latest, Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony, is no exception.

For those not in the know, Artemis is a teenage genius with a penchant for crime, and a big - very BIG - minder called Butler. He's been annoying the hell out of the fairy kingdom for years, although, having saved each other from disaster more than once, they have the sort of a love-hate relationship neither side would admit to: Holly, ex-LEPrecon (the fairy police), is his principle contact and Foley (the centaur) the technical wizardry supplier - oh, and there is a singularly repulsive character called Mulch, the ... The stories are told at a good pace for children, with plenty of dialogue.
In 'Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman' Henry's plans to win a best snowman competition go awry and he gets a bit of a come uppance!

The second story 'Horrid Henry's Rainy Day' has Henry writing a will, an unusual heme for a children's story but it works. Henry's thoughts on how he would come back to haunt people if he died of boredom is particulary funny.

When Moody Margeret sets up her own makeover business in the third story, it doesn't take Horrid Henry long to set up a rival one next door. But Henry's makeovers are rather different to Margaret's.

Horrid Henry's Author Visit is the final story in the collection. Henry is so excited that his ... Read More:

I bought this collection of 6 stories after checking what Roald Dahl books my son already had, on the basis that there was no overlap. The product description says book #6 is "The Witches", when actually it was "The Twits" which my son already has.

Amazon, please correct the description - I am somewhat disappointed...

This book focuses on "sport" - first the Quidditch World Cup and then the Triwizard Tournament - so much I actually miss some of the Hogwarts everyday life. But as always it's an unpredictable plot introducing Mad-Eye Moody among other soon to be important characters and bringing Voldemort back in full force, which bodes "well" for the last three books
I've read all seven books in Danish at least twice each. Now I'm going through the lot in English - in the right order that is - and have just finished this one. Okay, I have to admit that I couldn't wait for the Deathly Hallows to be published in Danish, and it was the first of them I read in English first. Even though this one is worthy of five stars, it's not the best one in my opinion. Harry Potter and my Subjective ... Read More:
