This is probably the worse course book I have ever seen. The audio bounces around the chapters so it is very difficult to follow the audio. They introduce new words without giving examples to whether it is der die or das. For all you teachers out there, this may seem quite adequate (as most teachers seem to have an elitist attitude), but for us students this is a real pain in the rear! You have to keep referring to the glossary, which really takes the fun out of learning German. As all you are really learning is now to navigate the glossary efficiently. This book has a lot of useful exercises to do at home between classes to practise all the new grammar that's been introduced in the different chapters. It also has a key to all the exercises so you can check them yourself. A word of warning though. The instructions aren't always very clear, particularly not to beginners, so you might need a teacher to explain them to you. There are also no explanations so it's not always easy to see what you've done wrong and why it's wrong. Furthermore, there's a lot of typos, both in the main part of the book and in the answer section so don't always accept something as wrong, do ask your teacher if you think it's supposed to be right.

I really like this format. I have looked at very, very many different teaching aids to French, (and bought a few too) and I do think that this is the best one. The format makes good use of colour and variety. There are listening, writing and speaking exercises. It does not ignore the grammar, but explains grammatical points succinctly. The CDs are essential to you progressing on the course. I genuinely think that you can make progress by yourself using this format. Its exceptionally well thought out and executed.

I've just received an evaluation copy of the book. I am teaching Standard Grade and the book is simply perfect, very clear, very well organized. I like the structure of the chapters. The exercises are very good, the listening part is great! The students like it because at the end of each chapter they have a check list of what they are supposed to know. It is up to date as well. A definite 5 stars!

These CDs should really be purchased alongside the course book. After having ordered the CD set alone, I discovered that to enable a full understanding of what was happening, and to expand my reading and pronunciation and recognition of French, the course book was essential. May I fully recommend spending the extra £10 - if you really would like to benefit as much as is possible from the French Experience 2 Course, then do so. I have been learning French in for 2 years, and found this intermediate course study `just right' for the stage I was at. After following the `Encore Tricolore' scheme, this appeared to act as a perfect `stepping-stone' from Encore Tricolore 2 to 3. May I also recommend the other BBC Language books. [...]

I use this book in my work as an English as a second language teacher. It is one of several books I use. Basically it is a set of grammar rules along with exercises. I find it valuable as it helps students to learn basic English language concepts. There are concise summaries of different parts of the language (e.g. prepositions, verbs, plurals, etc.) students can read. These are followed by exercises students can use to practice what they've read. For this, it is one of the best I've found (and I've spent a lot of hours in bookstores looking over material). Speaking from expereince, the realisation that you really don't know the pluperfect passive subjunctive (the supine of the verb plus essem etc. if you were wondering) and your going to have to possibly write or at least be aware that it exists for prose composition can be quite a surprise a week before the exam. For all those who have ever been in a sticky latin grammar situation or need help getting through an Ovid translation for homework, this book is for you. It is clear, the expamples are exactly what you need (well, at least more often than not) and it's not a daunting grammar book that uses strange words you have never seen or will ever see again. If you need a grammar book, stop looking and buy this.
