I agree with the majority of the reviewers below. the common complaint is that this is not advanced? Well that is arguably the case but if you have a basic understanding of French and you want to take youreself into the A level (which incidentally stands for advanced) then I recommend this set. The fact that I took A level French many years ago and this set clarifies tenses better than any teacher I have experienced says it all- and now I am relatively comfortable with 19 YES 19 tenses after this course (even the subjunctive!!). I would also add that his advice at the end of the cd is priceless I just wish he managed to produce a further course.And he has got rid of the dithering student from the introductory course which was frustrating. ... Can't recommend this enough, if you can learn the verbs you can master the language. Easy to find verbs in all the tenses, handy little tips and explanations. Wish I'd had this when I did my GCSE, would have made studying easier. It comes with a CD that has drills and tests. If you are learning the language, this is a good start.

The big hardback thesauri are too big, and the mini or Gem thesauri are too small for your needs. Then look no further than The Oxford Paperback Thesauarus (OPT). According to the introductory blurb, it is an abridgement of the New Oxford Thesaurus of English published in 2000. In fact it is 95% of said New Oxford Thesaurus of English. Having downloaded the pdf file with a sample of the larger thesaurus and compared it to this OPT, I was amazed. For a fraction of the price you do indeed get an average of 95% of the content! The layout is good: headwords are in a bold sans-serif font and the synonyms are in a (for some maybe a little too small) serif font. Nice slim book that does what it says in the title. Cheap, light, easily popped in your suitcase or bag and covers most everyday situations. Its more useful for holidays than anything else and I only really used it a couple of times as I preferred the lonely planet fast talk guide. Although its slim, it is quite 'tall' so you can't pop it in your pocket.

This book was essential reading for me during my literacy specialist tutor training, and two years later it is still in regular use. If you want to check your use of grammar, wonder what word is used for truanting in South Wales, or are puzzled as to what a morpheme is, the answers are here. It never let me down when I wanted to check something. Not the cheapest or most portable book there is, but definitely the best.

I passed my literacy test this week using this book. The book covers every area of the test plus other common misconceptions. The book also includes practice questions which are very similar to the test questions.Would reccommend to anyone doing the TDA tests.

OK, so it is impossible to make a book like this interesting - at least for me. However, I have had this book for about six months, and I still find it's the first book I reach for when I get stuck. 82 verbs are given a whole page, with 16 tenses written out in full - which is plenty. Although the cover says that there are 12,000 verbs, only the 82 verbs are explained in detail, though these are the ones you'll want most frequently. After that you are referred to one conjugated in the same way as the one you are interested in. At first this niggled because I like to see the word on the page, but then the book would be huge if every single verb was written out.
