I'm afraid I cannot agree with some of the other reviews on this book. I have just started the Balinese bit and I am struggling. I could not see what the fuss was about with Italy in the Italian part of the book and during the Indian part, it just felt that the kind of detail she was putting in just made it all seem fake.
I agree that she writes very well, she is witty and I like her characters, but so far I have not been able to enjoy the book. In all, I have found it a disappointment as it was recommended to me.

I adored this book. I didn;t have to read it for School at any point, and no one ever told me i should read it to better myself, but still i found myself drawn to Catcher in the Rye as i was to the Bell Jar, and Girl Interupted, it is fascinating to view a persons internal nuerosis in the way that Holden shows his own.
Holdens contempt and indifference to everything is amazing, even Phoebe bugs him at times, here we have someon totally detatched from himself, he does not really care that he is wandering around New York bruised and bloodied, and amazingly - no one mentions it to him??! I wonder how much of what Holden says happened for real and what was Gory self glorification of his own situation?
I read the modern American print ... Read More:

Having just purchased McKenna's Change Your life in 10 Days, i gave this book a whirl.
Would you like to eat whatever you want and still lose weight? Not possible (sorry).
Would you like to feel happy with your body? Its possible.
Are you unable to lose those last 2 stone? Its possible.
Do you get disheartened about your eating habits?

Well then, read this bookreview and save your cash.
Stop eating unhealthy foods; eat fruit and vegetables. Quit the booze. Cycle to work everyday; go for a walk after dinner every evening instead of watching BB or Eastenders. Do not go to the Gym. Going to the Gym is a waste of time; jog to the Supermarket instead and carry your shopping home. You'd be amazed how much ... Read More:

Simply fantastic.

The rhyming scheme is fantastic and the characters likeable. Even tho the witch is 'ugly' and has a big wart on her nose, she is kind and helps people and ISN'T scary.

A very funny story, with great rhymes and moral messages but without being preachy- so they just absorb my osmosis that if you do good things for your friends and dont judge them on how they look, then they will do good things for you in return.

The highlight tho is my 3 year old and I booming out together "BUZZ OFF- THATS *MY* WITCH" at the dragon. Even funnier was when he reused it when his friend tried to take one of his cars !! Ha ha

Buy it, you wont regret it

The title says it all, this book is GREAT. Whether you are a first time mum wanting a bible or are looking for the ideal present for a mother to be, this has got to be it. I have not yet found another book that is so thorough, reassuring, practical, unbiased or (believe it or not) entertaining as this one. It will save you trips to the pediatrician, reassure and help you with practical problems, give guidance on baby's development, in short, there is not an area or issue, however obscure, that hasn't been covered.

If there is any criticism at all, as mentioned by a previous review, is the way the book is organised into months, although it is hard to see with the volume of information it contains how it would best be done. I would agree with previous readers ... Read More:

This is great! We were camping up around the lake district and it directed us to some superb little-used spots. It also has excellent suggestions for eating/drinking etc near each campsite and/or warnings if there's a bit of a walk. We definitely found a few gems (like the Drunken Duck!). It covers 40 campsites across England (each one gets a page or two, and some lovely photographs so you can see what you're getting) - not a huge amount of choice, but as it says itself it "features a hand-picked selection", and seemingly they visited hundreds of camp sites across England to find this list of 40, and i'd much prefer that to a huge list of ones where you turn up and are disappointed.
Something that i found a huge advantage, but that you might find a disadvantage is that they're ... Read More:

Even when you have finished this book, it stays with you and you find yourself thinking about it at odd times. This is strangely disturbing given the subject matter (which many have already outlined, so I won't repeat). The relationship between the 4 main women is beautifully drawn, both before and after the impact of what they have done together. The reader is curiously sympathetic to all the main characters, which is unusual in a thriller/murder story.
Initially I was worried that the Japanese names and setting would be confusing and I wouldn't be able to engage with the story, but after a handful of pages, I was completely immersed in the book. Not only was I not confused, but I relished the descriptions of everyday life in Japan - not something we in the West tend to be aware ... Read More:

As a fan of this genre, the facts are totally believable. In fact for me this is the best written book of its type - I read it 2 1/2 days. Theres even the admission that a 'deal' with the enemy took place to preserve life. Great reading for all armchair squaddies and I guess some real ones too. There are some high quality maps included plus many photos to break up the text.
A 'must read' volume.
