Difficult to review without referring to the plot, therefore this is quite short. The story is only 64 pages but it feels rich with detail. Originally published in 1938 this story caused quite a stir! It is written as a series of letters between a Jewish American living in San Francisco and his former business partner who had returned to Germany. It's sad, tragic and evocative. I'd like everyone I know to read this memorable story.

This is my second attempt at writing a comment. My first attempt must have been too extreme. I didn't like this book at all. Why? Because it gives you false hope. I'll explain: Yes I believe that everything in the Universe, including our thoughts, are connected. But the problem with books like The Key, The Secret, The Attraction Factor, are that you send out the wrong thoughts. The thoughts you are sending out to the Universe are 'I'm not satisfied with what I have. I want this, and I want that.' You are sending out thoughts of weakness. i found this book a huge help. my son only had acsident on the 1st two day. i know this was down to my son not the book but it helped my make a start.

I disagree with the other reviewers I quite enjoyed the storyline. I do not believe that all of us remember clearly our childhood and the way Tempe remembers her childhood seems realistic to me. I found this book an improvement on her previous novel and would recommend it to anyone.

I always recommend books on cognitive psychology as they represent the cutting edge of psychotherapy. I also always recommend FREE YOUR MIND by Anthony Stultz-he helps us to see the roots of CBT are from the Buddhist tradition and he presents a system that combines CBT in a Buddhist orientation.

I bought this book to read on holiday and, had it not been the only novel I took with me, I would not have persevered. The story is all right, and just about worth plodding through, and the flavour suitably Italian, but the style? Oh dear! I found the writing style and use of vocabulary poor and ponderous. Instead of sharing this book with my group of friends, as we generally do with novels we have enjoyed, I left it in a hotel in Italy - not worth bringing home! I shall not be tempted by any other novels by this author, when there are so many others who write better.

for the uninitiated: this is a series of science fiction novels telling the ongoing story of the lost fleet, a group of spaceships in a future war between two human groups called the alliance and the syndic. the fleet comes from the former, and they got lost behind enemy lines and would have been doomed had they not found john geary. the legendary black jack, who fought in a battle at the start of the war one hundred years previously and was stuck in suspended animation ever since. geary is now in command, struggling to deal with the myth that has built up around him in the meantime, and trying to get the fleet back home. Of course it is better read IN CONTEXT... meaning they were written in the sixties... no cell phones etc. A magnificent recompilation of the original works. I must admit (having seen the films) I did not bother with the books for a long time... I was wrong... Fleming knew what he was writing about. Highly recommended. ADB PS: Car fetishists will be glad to know that Bond "personal car" is a Bentley Continental transformed by Mulliner in a two seater with plenty of luggage room... a bit selfish (HE SAYS!)...
