Of course it is better read IN CONTEXT... meaning they were written in the sixties... no cell phones etc.
A magnificent recompilation of the original works.
I must admit (having seen the films) I did not bother with the books for a long time... I was wrong... Fleming knew what he was writing about.
Highly recommended.

PS: Car fetishists will be glad to know that Bond "personal car" is a Bentley Continental transformed by Mulliner in a two seater with plenty of luggage room... a bit selfish (HE SAYS!)...

To reduce philosophy and literature to pieces of garbage is the main characteristic of our time, a dark age in belief. Absolute individualism, freedom, egocentricism are destroying the Western society have already show serious signs of all kinds of sickness. And this book and the phenomenon it created is nothing new, but really old: that people without direction but full of illusion have every reason to cheer about, when they see something like this to further draw their hearts to the darkness that refuses the light. I wonder how long this darkness and sickness will last.

5 stars seems ungenerous to a book that is not only a tribute to a formidable character (Greg Mortenson) written in high quality journalistic style, but a cautionary tale about how those who choose to run global politics without knowing the facts or the people on the ground are guility of the grossest dereliction of duty (i.e. George W Bush and his fellow ignorami). You'll find this book inspirational, provocative and ultimately gripping and, in my view, it changes perceptions of Islam profoundly. Read it, think hard and share the core point with anyone who'll listen - education is the key to unlocking the benign human resources of the third world - just start the process with courage, goodwill and a bucketful of belief and anything is possible. Although it took me a while to get into the book (I think the fact I picked it up in the kids section put me off) I was soon gripped and finished it quickly. As I got to know the characters I was more and more drawn into the story of Tessa and those around her. This is a very moving story with a considered view into what it must be like to face death, particularly at a young age. I did shed a tear or two but was generally left feeling uplifted having lost a close relative earlier this year. Definately worth a read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

What a fantastic read and great for all ages - although the Gruffalo is still the frim favourite in our house this book gives it a real run for its money..... highly recommend this for all 1-7 year olds. Also as an adult that enjoys doing the voices (badly!) its easy to read this book aloud again and again without getting tired of it.
Julia and Alex are a great team - brilliant story and brilliant pics.

A good idea for a book and it very nearly comes off as a good read.

When Stef is cameraperson there is much more feeling to the book. The detours to visit places make excellent reading. Unfortunately after she has to quit through injury the sparkle goes out of the book.

Enter Andy and it all goes downhill. It becomes apparent that the idea is to get to the finish line as quickly as possible with no thought to what places may actually be missed by this style of travel. They could just as well have flown instead of driving for the last part of the book for the interest shown. If Andy was so desperate to see his daughter why volunteer for the assignment in the first place? DVD sales of the book is all that comes to mind to me. In this ... Read More:
