This was a real can't put down page turner. Paul Johnston's Quint Dalrymple, Jack Kerley's Carson Ryder and John Connolly's Charlie Parker books are all fantastic but you can't help liking the down at heeel main character, Logan McRae, even though you don't really know what he looks like etc. With this book, even when you can see what's coming, it hits you harder than you expect. The only thing I didn't like about this book is the final five pages. Not gonna spoil it for anyone. Can't wait for the next book from a cracking writer who, despite the intensity of the narrative, still finds time to make the reader laugh with a dark wit. I awarded five stars because I was enthralled, despite the ending.

Again you find yourself reading a review written by a fan of Philip Pullman's work. I must say, if you are a fan as well - BUY IT! Yet be aware of a slight disapointment, because it is far to short! Bear in mind that I myself am a passionate reader, and I need at least 50 pages to get started, and since this funny little book only contains about 96, I was left with a the small disappointment because I just (like so many others) wanted more. It was gone within the hour that I had recieved it. But if you are searching for a small quick read, a collector's object as a fan or you just want a bit more of Pullman's universe - this is it. I'm not a gardener, I'm someone who has a bash at growing a few tomatoes, and would like to keep her blueberry bush alive. That's about it. This book as absolutely wonderful! The information is practical,concise and very easy to follow. There's just the right about of information - not enough to overwhelm you, and not too little that just leaves you with unanswered questions (as with Carol Klein's book). There's also the obvious bonus that this book covers fruit as well as vegetables, whereas most 'grow your own' books are vegetables only. I'm no expert on cbt or any type of psychology and I'm always slightly wary. CBT, however, was recommended to me by a psychologist to assist me to help my client group - troubled young people. I love the 'for Dummies' series as they are really easy to read but provide you with quite a broad knowledge for a layman. There is a wealth of sound practical advice in this book for everybody and I can't believe how much I'm learning about myself and my incorrect thinking and its effects. This book requires a lot of concentration (although the style of writing is easy) and effort to think the material through and also to complete the exercises but it really is life-changing. I think when some people read the book they mistakenly perceive the book as a set of rules that must be followed to the letter. It isn't. It's a simple and clear set of guidelines that helps your baby to find a natural and balanced rhythm. We followed the book carefully with our little one and it wasn't a case of rigid timelines in the slightest. We have a very happy, healthy, contented baby who from the age of 6ms year was sleeping (happily) from 7pm to 7am. She knows her meal times (yes the Gina Ford weaning book is also fabulous) and the difference between a lighter day time nap and night time sleep. I would certainly recommend this to everyone and it will help you greatly in preparing for your Theory test. I pass my theory and hazard perception first time with the help of this book.
