This book was excellent in preparing me and helping me pass the PIRT.
It gave me the cofidence I needed on the day and I would reccommend it to anyone thinking about applying for the police force.
Go for it!

Okay, this is a book about the history of PR. The three reviews before mine are all five star reviews. When you click on the link to she the reviewers other reviews, not one of them has reviewed another book. It's just the friends of the authors, agent, editor, or publisher posting good reviews for this book. Its just PR!

I'm actually reading it, and while the history is somewhat interesting, the book does not deserve five stars. It's a 2.5 tops. This would make a good 200 page book. The author stretches out tedious stories to fill chapters. Like I said, I think it's mildly interesting because I know nothing of the history of PR. If you do, you may ant to skip this one.

This is a very well thought through and researched piece of work. It is a must -read for any CEO who wants his company to operate in a space different from the beaten track.

The book puts together a pack of simple yet powerful tools to conceptualize the new space, define it in detail, craft a profit strategy, and actualize its implementation.

The examples used are penetratively insightful, and liberal in number for the point(s) to be driven home.

Although primarily geared more for B2C businesses, the broad principles can be extrapolated for any type of business.

I was pleasantly intrigued to find that on the back of this book someone has actually created a service offering and started a boutique consulting ... Read More:

What can one say about a Tax Guide? If you know your way around taxes this won't help you much, but there are a few gems in there for those who are only partially aware of the Tax laws.

I'd say if you've never read one of these then you really ought to do so. The cost is little and the time it takes will be less than you expect. All you need to do is find one thing that you can use and it will have paid for itself many times over and you can bore all your friends with your new-found knowledge of tax avoidance (avoidance is ok, evasion is not!). Even if you don't find anything to increase your wealth you will know this for sure and will probably sleep better knowing the taxman is taking only what is due.

This is the first tax guide I have read, and ... Read More:

This book was recommended to me; indeed it seems to be well reviewed from a number of sources. However, if you are anything like me (background in British academia but wondering about the prospects of a non-academic future) you may well find yourself infuriated by the poor (and poorly excused) grammar and punctuation, and the fairly shallow content which is needlessly stretched out over 400 pages. I read on in hope of some pearls of wisdom and admit that there are *some* useful comments here but not enough to warrant paying for this book. Typically, advice will involve (say) typing `how to write a CV' (or, rather `Resume' - see below) into Google to give you an idea how to write a CV (p63).

While there is some helpful and reassuring advice on interviews and interview ... Read More:

I bought this book 3 years ago before starting my LLB, and bought it again last week as I hope to study for an LLM next year and wanted to brush up on my legal skills.

The book is very good at getting a prospective law student to think like a lawyer. It sets out very well the areas that a student needs to know about, such as judicial precedent, statutory interpretation and the now unavoidable influence of the European Union and the European Convention on Human Rights on English law.

Two minor criticisms. Firstly, I think the authors do not clarify or explain certain topics enough, especially as this is aimed at students who have not yet studied Law. Secondly, there are countless typing and printing errors in the 6th edition. This can be very distracting and ... Read More:

The concept for this book is reasonably good, but can be boiled down:

1) Choose your attitude - you can either be happy or miserable at the office. The work stays the same whether you're cheery or not.

2) Play. Have a bit of a play at the office.

3) Make their day. Do something every day which will be the best part of someone else's day.

4) Be present. Don't be thinking about your holiday or last night's TV when you could be fully focussed on work. Interact with people.

Beyond that, it's a 45min read about how one woman implemented this into her company and even that isn't hugely rewarding as the book stops at the point she implements these techniques.

I now know a lot more about the workings of the City, including how banks really work. This book has also helped me to understand a lot of the jargon in the Financial Times. It's a very enjoyable read - the author uses simple analogies to explain some of the concepts, making it a lot quicker to learn them than from a textbook.

The message is very good. Quality of text is not that great. I don't mean that there is lots of spelling mistakes or such but I felt the text was heavy. Time after time I almost started to sleep or think something completely else than the book. That is really a bummer. Excellent ideas but boring package.
