I agree with the majority of the reviewers below. the common complaint is that this is not advanced? Well that is arguably the case but if you have a basic understanding of French and you want to take youreself into the A level (which incidentally stands for advanced) then I recommend this set. The fact that I took A level French many years ago and this set clarifies tenses better than any teacher I have experienced says it all- and now I am relatively comfortable with 19 YES 19 tenses after this course (even the subjunctive!!). I would also add that his advice at the end of the cd is priceless I just wish he managed to produce a further course.And he has got rid of the dithering student from the introductory course which was frustrating. ... Can't recommend this enough, if you can learn the verbs you can master the language. Easy to find verbs in all the tenses, handy little tips and explanations. Wish I'd had this when I did my GCSE, would have made studying easier. It comes with a CD that has drills and tests. If you are learning the language, this is a good start.

Nice slim book that does what it says in the title. Cheap, light, easily popped in your suitcase or bag and covers most everyday situations. Its more useful for holidays than anything else and I only really used it a couple of times as I preferred the lonely planet fast talk guide. Although its slim, it is quite 'tall' so you can't pop it in your pocket.

For the price, this is a must buy for anyone learning French or needing a handy lookup. All words are placed in context with a French sentence alongside an English translation. Come on - for this price, do what I did an just buy it! Worth every penny!

OK, so it is impossible to make a book like this interesting - at least for me. However, I have had this book for about six months, and I still find it's the first book I reach for when I get stuck. 82 verbs are given a whole page, with 16 tenses written out in full - which is plenty. Although the cover says that there are 12,000 verbs, only the 82 verbs are explained in detail, though these are the ones you'll want most frequently. After that you are referred to one conjugated in the same way as the one you are interested in. At first this niggled because I like to see the word on the page, but then the book would be huge if every single verb was written out. Please not that you need to know the French word you are looking for as this isn't a dictionary too, ... Read More:

I'm sure readers at the time were spooked by its tale of ghosts threatening the innocence of two children, and the attempts of a quasi-hysterical governess to save them. It was that period of the Victorian era when séances and ghosts were popular, when spiritists promised to bridge the road between the living and the dead. People enjoyed sitting around a fire and sharing ghost stories, specially during Christmas time. But times have changed and this novella is now more interesting as a controversial piece of lit crit rather than a frightening ghost story. Did the ghosts in the story really exist? This is a clear and easy to use phrase book. The way it is laid out (with colour coded pages) makes it extremely easy to find relevant phrases when you really need them, without too much flicking through the pages. It's size makes it perfect to slip into your pocket and the mini dictionary in the back is also extremely useful. Most phrase books tend to be much the same and have the same phrases within, but the size and layout of this one makes it stand out enough from the rest to warrant a closer look. You can usually find it for a great price on amazon as well.
