Very dissappointed with this calendar. The pictures are all the same - one photo would have done for every month! I guess that is why its 'unofficial' and its a case of buyer beware! Hopefully I will find another which contains varied shots including a couple of in character David!

Like the calendar, I have been buying the datebook for many years and it does seem to get better and better each year. There is a whole plethora of information inside this little gem from recipes to cook at Sabbats and Esbats, Spells, Correspondences and much, much more. The layout is good too, two pages cover one week, beautiful artwork once again and like the calendar there are also some interesting articles written by other Pagan authors. Do please note though that the phases of the Moon and the times given may differ slightly because we are in GMT and this being a US diary, is set in EST. I highly recommend this diary and have kept all my old ones for reference use or for recipes. Well done Llewellyn.

Out of all the esteemed artists who have created images of J.R.R. Tolkien's work, Ted Nasmith is probably in the top five somewhere. Heck, he'd probably be higher on the list if it weren't for John Howe and Alan Lee, because his paintings of Middle Earth are lushly detailed, and rich with light and colour. And the "Tolkien Calendar 2009" has some of his lovelier pictures that were created for the illustrated "Silmarillion," full of ice and fire, light and shadow, and loads of orcs, Elves and ancient humans. The cover obviously is a gorgeous picture of the Elves' white ships from Valinor, sailing into the bay of a white-and-gold city against a mountain. Another lovely reprint of a classic Bestall Rupert Annual. Last year's facsimile was the 1959 annual, why the huge gap? I was not expecting a reprint of the 1960 annual, but there is nothing to offend in the 1961 or 1962 books (one annual contains a story with a jolly Chinese pilot and the other a mysterious stranger wearing a fez!) Come on, Egmont, don't you think you are being a wee bit timid, bring out facsimiles of the 1961 and 1962 annuals, there is nothing wrong with them.
