Obviously everybody who reads this book will probably have a different opinion about it, but after reading several of his books I was a bit disappointed with this one. It's still written in his usual style and I love how he expresses himself, but the storyline was a bit of a let-down for me. I expected more from Paulo Coelho.

Paulo Coelho, in my opinion is not known for his brilliance in writing, but more for the underlying spiritual message his books provokes. This book to me, was very typical example of this. The story itself, told as a narrative to an unknown biographer,is of Athena, a woman who inspired so many people, bewitching, mysterious but ultimately influential. Her story, is as incredible as it's inspiring. Coelho, delivers on the inspiration, but not on the writing.Buy if a fan.

I found Paulo Coelho's The Valkyries a bit of an enigma. I suspect the author at least partly intended it to be so. In a nutshell, the author seeks to discover new aspects of his psyche, to develop new angles on his existing skills. After a consultation with his mentor, he and his wife set off for a jaunt in the Mojave Desert to find what it is that they seek. Our author is in engaged in a quest, a search for his personal Angel. The reader, I am sure, will be convinced from the start that she accompanied him throughout. They wander off in full sun one day, take their clothes off (for some reason) and have to be rescued by Gene, who has seen it all before. That is a little crude, but it was the first title that popped into my head. This is a captivating, beautifully written (albeit short) story of a young woman who decides to commit suicide. However she doesn't die straight away, but wakes up in a mental institution and is told that she has irreparably damaged her heart and has less than a week to live. She then spends the next 5 days on a personal journey, learning to appreciate life, and cherish even the mundane moments. She can fulfil fantasies as she has no fear of rebuke. One prevalent theme in the novel is that we repress our feelings for fear of what others may think, when we should just have the courage to live. I have never in my life ever read a book which has inspired me as much as "the warrior of light". From the first to the last page words of wisdom enthrall the reader. This book is truly magnificent all credit to Coelho. I recommend this to any person who is a deep thinker and interested in what others have to say. I think it has the power to motivate even the most unmotivated of us. After reading this book i guarantee you won't see the world in the same light ever again.
