This is a nicely plotted, beautifully presented and superbly illustrated vampire story. It has a neat scenario (inspired perhaps by Pitch Black which appeared 2 years earlier) and dispenses with all the niceties of the myths and treats vampires as the monsters they are. The only surprise is that although it is described as a graphic novel, it is a short story. Only 80 of its 104 pages are devoted to the story - the rest is filler: biographies and teasers from other books in the series. It will only take you half an hour to read it - but it will be an enjoyable half hour.

Basically, Thor is ressurrected and he recreates Asgard in the rural heartlands of America. He then seeks out other lost gods - who are now living temporal mortal lives, without memory of their former godhood, (that is until they are 're-awoken' by Thor.) It sounds daft, I know, but it's well-done. I particularly enjoyed watching the ordinary locals' - and their almost believable reactions to their new, supernatural, 'old-world' neighbours. This is a refreshing change from the cliched superhero genre. It's not fast-paced and it's short on violent action - so anyone looking for an action-based tale may be disappointed. The story builds and unfolds at a rather gradual-pace - which in my view only adds to the overall depth and brilliance of the story. ... Read More:

The second half of "Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures" is where Laurell K. Hamilton stops trying to have the plot make sense.

While there are some interesting revelations, the fragmented story develops holes you could drive a SUV through, on the few occasions when it's not boring us silly with dysfunctional romance and vampire antics. Worst of all, the supposedly tough and knowledgeable Anita Blake becomes denser and more offensively obnoxious as the plot winds on... even to the point of forgetting who the murderer of master vampires is.

Angry with Phillip, Anita stomps out of the house -- and promptly bumps into a gang of Nikolaos' vampires overseeing a zombie-raising. Anita gives her help to the failing animator Zachary ... Read More:

I was a bit critical of Vol 1 but vol 2 is much much better. The foundations are all laid down and this is just a real page turner. Yorick is much more likeable in this vol. The interplay between Yorick and his sister is pretty interesting and I am excited to see how this turns out. When you finish this I was desperate to read Vol 3. The art is ok, nothing spectacular but serves its purpose.

I absolutely adored this book! I was a bit apprehensive about buying it at first because I'd heard all the usual whinings about "oh, but this hardly has Death in it at all!", but I read it and it was another stroke of brilliance from Neil Gaiman. Admittedly it doesn't feature Death as much as 'The High Cost Of Living' does, but it does feature Hazel and Foxglove, who are my favourite humans in the whole series. In this book we see a side to Death that hasn't come up much in the main series- instead of being her usual optimistic self, she seems to actually be sad at the thought of having to take the life of someone who was once a friend. 'The Time Of Your Life' is darker than 'The High Cost Of Living', but this only adds to its absolute amazingness. And any ... Read More:

Books : Ronin
I bought ronin thinking yet another great book from Miller but I foud it rather disappointing. The art for one is nowhere near the likes of sin city or 300. The story is a great idea but Miller fails to pull it off. If you want to get into Miller comics don't get this, get sin city, 300 or batman all of which I have read coutless times and could easily read again.I would give it two stars for the idea.

I'm really enjoying this series and cant wait to get the third and fourth books. I'm quite anxious to see where the plot goes and I loved the bonus stories at the back of the book (Sometimes There Are Lazy Days Too)
