I've been developing .Net applications since version 1.0 and wanted to use this book to polish what I know and fill in any gaps. Unfortunately this book has proved to be almost of no use whatsoever.

The first hard lesson to learn is that the book MUST be read alongside the substantial list of corrections available on the Microsoft website. If you don't heed this warning you quickly form the opinion that not only has the book not been proof read by a third person but that it's not even be proof read by the authors.

The second major problem is that the combination of authors working on the book has led to an inconsistent style and tone. In one section you might be hand held through an exercise as if you don't know what ... Read More:

the book refers to project builder rather than xcode. admits xcode was on the way when it was written, but says 'these instructions should work fine'. They didn't for me - the output from the first program never appears on screen. I've been googling for answers to this, and discovered the Apple documentation for xcode which I'll now have to study first.
Admittedly it does give instructions for compiling from terminal or windows if you prefer.

I read this book during my first year at Uni and found it to be informative and useful. Although it can be dull in some parts it is a decent introduction to OO systems analysis. However do read other books on this subject to accompany this book.

This book is really good if you're new to website design and blogging. As usual, the missing manual series has debug website design in easy to understand manner, and with less jargon. It takes one through the very basic website design method, lays down the tools you need and how to use it. This is a must read book if you are new to web design and want to learn from scratch. It can't get better than this.

This book really does an awesome job at guiding you through the process of using collective intelligence in your own applications. For me, a bit more explanation on the math would be nice, but if i just pay attention it still seems to stick, so it's not crucial.
just, well, get it! it's good

I'm disappointed with this book. I hoped to find much more depth about Scrum than can be gleaned from the Web. What it has to say, it says well, and the general point (that Scrum is better) is competently argued and substantiated. The reasons I can only give three stars are: firstly, the quality of graphics is appalling (could be bettered by a six year old with a Mac Plus); secondly, the price: this book would be fine for £[...].

As a, self-taught, one-man-band website owner/designer/coder/developer I was surprised to realise, upon reading the book, that I was not the 'target audience' for it. I think its more for the middle-men and consultants of big organisations who want to plan a project to the nth degree before a big budget is blown on it.

Because of my hands-on experience, I found that this book merely gave me formal names for many of the processes and aspects of Information Architecture (IA) that I had been implementing already. Despite this, however, I learned a lot from this book. It rounded-off aspects of the topic that I had previously overlooked. It filled some holes and inspired me to make many changes to the information structure of my website.

Unfortunately these ... Read More:

Great writing style. Clear explanations and great metaphors, sprinkled with enough humor to keep you reading what could otherwise be a stodgy subject. The first three chapters lay the groundwork very clearly. I'm not yet sure that there's enough concision to make this a reference book, but it is certainly a great tutorial. I had Spring bouncing into action in no time with this book as a guide.

Excellent book, written by two of the most prolific contributors on the Oracle Apex forums - they've helped me out many a time.

The book has taken a long time to make it to print, but is worth the wait; whilst there are plenty of on-line resources to get you started with Apex, this book takes you through the next steps in depth. It is really well written and easy to read, with clear and useful example code throughout.

If you use, or are looking into using Apex, then this book is a must.
