Matlab has become very popular in the engineering field. Whilst both Maple and Mathematica have stronger symbolic capabilities, Matlab excels in the numerics and so tends to be used for engineering more than pure maths. The Matlab documentation is built into the program and is also available online. There is a very active newsgroup comp.soft-sys.matlab where Matlab users can ask for help. It is read by a lot of staff from Mathworks and they, or other Matlab users, answer questions quickly. The importance of good support on this sort of software can not be overstated. You can find topics such as the new DNS System, Terminal Services, networking, virtualization (very hot topic!) and a lot of other hot topics as well. I liked the "real world" examples given by the authors, and also the test and review questions at the end of each chapter. Covers all you need to know about the new Windows Server 2008. I'm a professional C# & WinForms developer who's moving over to ASP.NET. I've looked at a few books (and mis-purchased one) but luckily eventually found this book. The authors really know their ASP.NET, and they write about it and present it perfectly. The coverage is accurate, insightful, comprehensive (as far as I can tell), interesting and paced just right. I read it bit by bit on the train into work, and can't wait to get into the office to apply the new things I've just learned. Can't recommend this one strongly enough.

This book is both informative and fun. Howie Jacobson obviously knows Google AdWords inside and out. The layout is logical and the text easy to understand. It is a must have if you want to unleash the potential of Google AdWords to help your business in the world of eCommerce. If there is something about Google AdWords that you think is unclear or mysterious then this book removes the "mirrors and smoke". I wanted to give it six stars but that wasn't an option. So five stars plus is my rating!

Brilliant, just don't buy it until you are reasonably confident with the same authors Excel reference or similar - this is not an entry level text. Worth it for the naming conventions alone!

Couldn't have survived the stats in either my degree or my MSc without this book, it gets down to what biologists care about in stats, what test to use, how to use it and what it shows, and avoids all the confusing 'mathsy' stuff in the middle (leaving you to read it in other books if necessary). If you want a stats book that is designed for biologists who have to cope with stats rather than statisticians trying to make something relevant to biology this is probably the book for you.

Good book. Covers a lot of ground and gives a good survey of the field. Time is on its back, however. The use of web frameworks such as Struts or Spring, and the use of ORM tools such as Hibernate or JPA makes much of the book "redundant". Such tools although solving a lot of practical problems, also introduces many new ones. Maybe a new edition of the book should cover such ground.
