The content that's in the book isn't bad, doesn't waffle too much, and goes about things in a very practical and informative manner and would be an essential purchase were it not for the fact that it hasn't kept up with the software. There are some sections that only tell half the story (or less), particularly those on noise reduction, sharpening, exporting and keyword management.

The publishers provide a pdf update, but it's a supplement rather than the whole book and that makes it awkward because it means there's no single definitive resource.

My recommendation would be to try and make do with the help available from the Adobe WEB site and buy this book when it's been updated to reflect the current software version. ... Read More:

This little book helped me decide to make the switch from my current MP3 player and go for an iPod. It's so clearly written, so full of great advice and tips that it's been better than any user manual could possibly have been.

Written with the usual wit and flair one expects from Rough Guides, this is an absolute must for anyone who is thinking of buying an iPod. For once - the blurb on the cover of a book is actually true. "You need this book". An excellent little guide indeed.

I'm disappointed with this book. I hoped to find much more depth about Scrum than can be gleaned from the Web. What it has to say, it says well, and the general point (that Scrum is better) is competently argued and substantiated. The reasons I can only give three stars are: firstly, the quality of graphics is appalling (could be bettered by a six year old with a Mac Plus); secondly, the price: this book would be fine for £[...].

A definite must buy for everyone that is aspiring to be great a C# .NET 3.5 developer or wants to learn about the latest and greatest that Microsoft has to offer.

The book covers all areas of the C# language from the basics to the very lastest parts of .NET framework like WPF, WCF, WF and LINQ. The book is very well structured and unlike most coding books it is a very easy read and has that personal touch in areas.

Reading through it there is not a single chapter that I would say is irrelavent, the book doesn't bombard you with irrelavent minor detail that you are not ever likely to need but provides a broad brush over everything with just the right level of depth in each area.

A must have book on everyones desk, ... Read More:

The book covers very much everything you need to think of when starting your own business. From project management to accounting, Jim Smith uses clear language and several examples from his own company, in helping you to assess strenghts and weaknesses of this or that option when starting a small web design business.
It is very helpful if you're thinking to make some money out of web design, even if only as a freelancer. The book gives a full perspective on client relationships, including complete contracts, payment schedules and business plan templates.
The legal details are US-specific, so it might not be so hepful for non-US based businesses. Still, a good buy.

One of the things I really like about this book is the way it carefully leads you step by step through all the stages you need to change your photographs into fantastic artistic images. Its a large subject but the book manages to successfully cover it all in an interesting and imaginative way, I found it well written and very informative.

The book is broken down into 13 sections and covers just about everything a digital photographer could wish to know, the breadth & depth of the book is just excellent. The individual sections are: The Next Level, Scanner and Camera Techniques, Processing Raw Files, Photo Organisation and Management, Pathways to Editing in Elements, Images Changes .. Beyond the Basics, Darkroom Techniques on the Doorstep, ... Read More:

I looked through the reviews of the books with SQL in the title and opted for this one as is had the highest number of 5 star reviews.

Having read 5 chapters in the last day my conclusion is that this is one of the best technical computer books I have ever read, and I have quite a few. The progress through the book is well paced with good thought provoking examples. An acceptable number of times I have had to re-read sections to fully understand the concepts and this has noticably improved by understanding of the SQL language.

I would recommend this book to anyone with equivalent experience, which is a few months of SQL table design/querying such that you have the basics already in hand. This moves you on from the basics.
