I'm a pupil still at school but hoping to do Computer Games Technology at university next year. In preperation for my course which will involve C++, i was recommended by a senior lecturer to learn Java. I've seen a few books and this one is my favorite. Again, I am still at school and find this book good. I'm using my spare time to learn Java so if it wasn't a good book, I wouldn't bother learning from it. Anyways, it is clearly layed out with a lesson for each day (although the lessons are long and will probably require a few days to complete each). I can highly recommend this book. I read the book before doing the course and certification. From the class I can see that the book really help me to in peace and quiteness understand how to do the diagrams for statement-, decision-, and path diagrams. Reading the book before in a decent pace also makes it much easier to cope with the high amount of information giving in the 3 days. My recommendation for passing the exam is: 1) Read the book or 2) Read the book and do the class The book should be mandatory - the course is nice to have (and yes, I did have a VERY good teacher). Good luck with the certification exam ;)

I bought this to replace my CIMA set text which was just too dull to get through. By contrast, I really enjoyed 'Foundations of Economics'. Flowingly and elegantly written, full of interest, and incredibly accessible, I recommend it thoroughly as an introduction to the subject, especially if you're struggling with a dry, heavy or bad foundation text. Oh, and the end-of-chapter multiple-choice questions on the book's website rock!

This book does all it says on the tin and more. That is, it provides a perfect substitute for the manual that I would have hoped to have found in the box. But in fact it does much more than this, because it is written in a very readable style, and provides helpful tips and advice that one would not generally expect to find in the average software manual. I feel quite annoyed that I was nearly put off buying it because a couple of the earlier reviews said its presentation was poor. In my view the presentation is absolutely fine, it's perfectly adequate for its purpose, and is well up to the standard of presentation that one should expect for a book in this price bracket. A very good book for beginners.Its not the book that will make you expert but it helps you to understand how the basics of HTML works.Also very well written!

First thing's first: this book is basically scripts of the podcasts. It does have a few cooky drawings and a slither of new content but, for the most part, if you've heard the podcasts, then you've heard this book. "Happyslapped by a Jellyfish" is much, much better (and cheaper!).

Using just this book along with exam braindumps found online I passed the 640-802 exam. The practice exams offer hundreds of practise questions along with simulations. Very good investment

Here is an area where the old school of design still lingers, the book is very suitable for specific tasks but really needs improving on. Having said that I threw away my copy of Charlotte Baden-Powell's book as soon as I got this - because even this tome is much more useable than hers.

I have read a couple of the previous versions and for me Andrew is the best technical author bar none. This isnt a light book to carry around but its worth it if you have to. You might think "how can this be a good book as it covers everything" but Andrew covers every subject with enough detail so that by the end of each section you know the concept, understand what is required for that concept, and have sufficient code examples to work with and even take further. Top drawer work
