I have owned this book for some time and I can honestly say it is unique. This is the only manual I have encountered that has been consistent in its inability to answer any query i have. Admitedly I am a Javascript novice but that's why I purchased this manual in the first place to help me understand javascript. The internet has quickly answered all my queries with ease and clarity, I really don't understand why this massive book is unable to do the same. As I said above it's probably me, as you can see there are many glowing reports for this book. I just bought the 450D and this is very helpful to get familiar with all the functions and buttons and menu options. Also has a basic guide to taking specific photos towards the end.

Quality book? Very much so. Easy to read? Well, yeah, but seems more formal than other Dummies somehow. Cover all the right stuff? Yeah, suppose, but spends a huge amount of the book going on about the Organiser (not interesting!!!!). Best book on Elements? No... though I don't know what is, but this isn't it.

Here is an area where the old school of design still lingers, the book is very suitable for specific tasks but really needs improving on. Having said that I threw away my copy of Charlotte Baden-Powell's book as soon as I got this - because even this tome is much more useable than hers.

I bought this book because I am a programmer and need to interact with SQL on a daily basis. However...I do not want to know the fine grain details about database management systems. This is a great little book. It is very easy to read and met my needs perfectly. The samples are all easily achievable in 10 minutes, just like it says on the cover. This makes them very easy to scan over for a refresher when you are trying to work out a solution to a problem. It does not go into great details on the more advanced topics, however it does offer a primer on some of them such as transactions and cursors. Overall I would have no hesitation in recommending this book. It won't make you a SQL pro...but it will definitely make you more comfortable in common ... Read More:

It wasn't so much that all the information in it was new to me (though a lot was), but the way that Matt explains things is fantastic! I think I managed to get as far as about page 10 before I went "wow, that's brilliant!". Highly recommended. Thanks Matt!

This book is right up there, in terms of quality, with the legendary New Riders book, Photoshop Channel Chops. From cover-to-cover, the tutorials are extremely simple to follow and there are some genuinely impressive results to be had. I think the book is pitched slightly more towards intermediate users, but if you're new to Photoshop please don't let that comment put you off. I consider myself an advanced user of Photoshop having used the application since the late nineties, and I have found plenty of head-turning stuff in this book. Well worth every single penny.
