An incredible story that is difficult to describe in a short few sentences. It was certainly a very thought provoking book and I really wanted to discuss it with someone else (excellent choice for a book club!). I was unsure about the ending but on reflection it fits well with the rest of the book and allows for the reader to ponder the story well after finishing reading. Dystopian fiction is not for everyone but if you are at all interested in this genre then this is a brilliant example. Once I'd finished this book I went straight out and bought "Oryx and Crake" - another dystopian story by Atwood.

I loved this book from the first moment i started reading it. Again, as are all the others, this is funny and witty. I can relate to Becky as im sure can most women, and i think thats why they are all so funny. I would definatley recommend this book.

This was quite an emotional read and I have to admit that I did cry in some parts of it. Having said this though, like Hopeless Romantic, some parts dragged on and were quite dull. But unlike Hopeless Romantic, it didn't have a freshness that was in Hopeless Romantic that made me love it. If you do want to read this book, I would recommend that you read Hopeless Romantic first because this book, although okay, wouldn't make you want to read anymore of Harriet Evans' books.

Hunter S. Thompson is by far THE most entertaining writer in modern literature, it has to be said. His engrossing affilliation with substances that he swore he hadn't been taking during the writing of the major part of this novel, make this most probably the funniest piece of literature available. His quick wit and complete topsy-turvy sense of humour is only the beginning. As he travels through the desert with his attorney to "find the dark side of the American dream", they well and trully find it when they agree that any trip such as the one their making can only be made armed with a stupendous arsenal of drugs. And this they do. They engage in a completely twisted reality that is there's alone, and their journey, so infallible to their minds, leaps ... Read More:

Bernard Cornwell for me is the no 1 in historical fiction genre, and as these are his favourite set of books of all he has written, I was really looking forward to these. I have just finished the first book, and it was amazing. I think as these books are written in the Dark Ages, he is able to let his imagination go wild in a way that he couldn't in the Sharpe or Grail Quest series. This book is an interesting take on the famous Arthur legend, and in his usual way, he has done an amazing amount of research into the time period and legend, to make what is probably the most likely Arthur tale that I have read (dont expect round tables!). This book is one you just cant put down, finished it in a week! A great tale of battles, love and magic..... halfway through ... Read More:

I used to read cornwell books when I was 14 and I thought they were amazing.

Recently I picked up this book again and had a quick look through and realised why the biggest fans of these books are 40 year old men and 13 year old boys.

His books contist of gory battles puncutated by erotica set in a different historical periods with a few dates and a bit of a plot thrown in (13 year old boys liking this formula becuase they are interested in sex and a box and 40 year old boys because perhaps dont get as much sex and excitment as they got when they were in their prime)

To be fair this book has a mildy engaging plot but there truly are better books, and authors out there.

I heard Lee Child being interviewed by Mark Lawson on Front Row recently and was inspired to try him. I bought The Hard Way, which I found 'unputdownable' and read in one go and then moved on to Bad Luck and Trouble and Persuader and One Shot. They are certainly addictive and I'm now making my way back though the earlier novels and this is my fifth read and probably least favourite. I had just read One Shot and there is a similar construct in both, and like other reviewers here, I had worked it out well before the end. But it's still a good read - Jack Reacher is a modern day drifter - sorting out the problems around him like Clint Eastwood's spaghetti western hero. These Jack Reacher novels are not great literature (nor do they pretend to be) but are great reads ... Read More:

I love this book - it takes me back to a place I'd forgotten. Youth, somewhere between 14 and 17yrs old. Murakami's unconnected way of looking at the world where everything is an adventure and nothing is sure. You leave motives and drives to adults and just get on with experiencing whatever comes your way. I don't think I've ever read anyone who writes in this mood and Murakami does it so well.

Its difficult to put my finger on it but i found this installment of the Tony & Carol saga well off target. It's like somebody had taken Val McDermid's characters and written a sub-standard novel under her name. The part where Carol lambasted 'The Spooks' getting involved in the case was a pretty poor attempt on some kind of humour based on TV's Hermione Norris's roll as both Carol Jordan in 'Wire in the blood' and her starring roll in the said 'Spooks'. I found the main characters very one dimensional, demons such as alcoholism and the characters personal circumstances or traits came over as both uninteresting and uninvolving.
I did't really enjoy the book, though its fairly easy reading so got through it quickly. The Author has set herself pretty high standards with her passed ... Read More:
