Thankfully I did not pay to read this book. I found it left behind at a hotel and decided to read it...and I know why someone left it behind.

Dean Koontz is apparently the new york times number 1 best seller...but this book is so far fetched with such a ridiculous plot that I cannot see who thinks he is a good author.

The story is basically about this 'good guy' Tim Carrier who is mistaken for a hit man whilst having a beer in his local bar. Rather then admit he is not the hit man, he decides to go out of his way to save the life of a perfect stranger.

The dialogue is annoying, the story is stupid and the ending is so very pathetic that it made me even more angry that I wasted my time finishing the book. ... Read More:

Sorry, but I feel so strongly about some of the other reviews that I felt I must right a review. Like most other readers, I loved the other Macbride books. I however was NOT dissapointed with this one....I was gripped from the first page and though some scenes in the book are gruesome...I couldn't put it down and have devoured it in two days flat!!! I won't say too much about the story as wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone...but I will say I didn't guess the perpetrator, not even at the end!!! Gripping read, don't be put off by other reviews I rated it 5 stars. WONDERFUL!

I'm not a huge fan of detective or crime stories. I've read a few of the modern crop. Starring world weary cops/forensic pathologists/police photographers etc who are so much better than their incompetent colleagues, yet drink like fishes at a curry contest and get off with every woman they meet. John Actor plays Monkfish etc. Yawn. But a detective in Nazi Germany? That sounded interesting: historically intriguing, and ethically too. A policeman floundering in a corrupt society, full of the echoes of history.

Unfortunately, what I found were all the usual clichés, plus a lot worse. Unreal dialogue, plentiful name-dropping: oh yes, and a low ranking detective who talks back to the likes of Heydrich, Himmler, and Göring.

"Gorky Park" - Great convoluted murder mystery set in the Soviet Union. It's a bit overlong. The film version is a simplified travesty.

"Polar Star" - My favourite of the books. It's a bit more like a traditional murder mystery as it has everyone trapped together on a fish processing ship.

"Red Square" - Perhaps the most inventive of the books. I always thought it was a great idea what the red square of the title actual is, and what it does.

"Havana Bay" - Arkady goes to Cuba. This was the first of the books that I read. If I read it in chronological order I might like it a lot more. As it was, I felt utterly confused by the book as it had two alien cultures meeting each other, and a lot of backstory. I enjoyed ... Read More:

225.To the Death by: Patrick Robinson

With English not as my native language, but as reader of all of Robinson's books form first print, I think that, although it is still a pageturner and perfect beach reader, the characters start getting bored. The "always right" Arnold Morgan, the "I see everything in the World" Ramshawe, "mighty unfailable" Hunter, unfailable NSA ... What is the problem with good "other" men in the US of A..... And unfortunatly in the end, the only character ever discribed in to depth is out of the next book. Although I will certainly order this next book I hope Robinson comes with something new and a more surprising plot.

I ran out of Michael Connelly and Lee Child novels to read, which is how I came upon the Elvis Cole novels. I did not start at the beginning but once I read one book I was hooked. I ordered the entire series from Amazon and read them all in 3 months. I am an avid reader and have read everything available by my 3 favourite novelists. I am desperately waiting for the new books.

I would highly recommend the Harry Bosch and Jack Reacher series if you have nothing to read, you wont be disappointed.

Unusually the detective doesn't get his man - well not how you might think, anyway. The characterisation is gripping, but you need to concentrate and keep your wits about you. Can't wait for the next one.

This was the first Robert Harris book I read and in my opinion the best. I really enjoy reading books about the Second World War, First World War (generally novels based on 20th century history) and I wasn't disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Ben Elton's 'First Casualty', Dan Brown, Peter James and Ian McEwan.

This book was amazing. I loved everything about it, how Anne Rice writes, how the characters develop and Louis is just so nice! For a vampire.
I had seen the movie before I read this book, but the movie is nothing compared to the book. You actually feel as if you are going through Louis life with him as its so detailed. I am now reading the sequel The Vampire Lestat, and would highly recomend that book also, as you will see why Lestat is the way he is in 'Interview'.
But would def read this again and recomend anyone to read this, not just vampire lovers.

This is quite a good book though not so gripping as The Surgeon. I read it in 3 evenings so I must've quite enjoyed it to finish it so quickly but afterwards when I thought about it, there wasn't actually that much to the story. Someone is going around killing people, the murderer from the previous book escapes prison (which it tells you on the cover, so I'm not spoiling it for anyone), and the police attend each crime scene.
To me, though, they don't actually seem to achieve much in the way of detective work. How they actually catch the killers is not through their crime solving (won't say any more as I don't want to give anything away), and the ending lacks excitement.
It's readable and enjoyable enough and I would recommend it, just a little flat at the end ... Read More:
