This is the first of the Myron Bolitar series od Coben books that I've read, and the second Coben novel I've read (Tell No One being the first to get me totally hooked on this author).

Although I didn't find it quite as gripping as his first 'stand alone' novel, I did thoroughly enjoy reading this book with its endless twists and turns and witty dialogue.

I thoroughly recommend reading this book and all Harlan Coben novels. Great writer. Writing fiction is all about entertainment, and that's what Coben delivers successfully every time!

This was the first Robert Harris book I read and in my opinion the best. I really enjoy reading books about the Second World War, First World War (generally novels based on 20th century history) and I wasn't disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Ben Elton's 'First Casualty', Dan Brown, Peter James and Ian McEwan.

Death of a Prankster is that rarity in this series, a pretty ordinary mystery and story that borders on not quite being up to the average level. Unlike many of the other stories in the series, you could skip this one and not miss anything. But I think you'll enjoy Death of a Prankster well enough, as long as you don't expect it to begin to match up to Death of a Hussy.

Think of this novel as the case that got Hamish central heating for the Lochdubh police station where he resides.

Andrew Trent is a monster of a man, playing cruel, crude jokes on one and all: It's his purpose in life. His family avoids him like the plague, but because Andrew is rich, they flock together when he tells one and all that he's on death's ... Read More:

I have to disagree with many of these reviews. I've read all Billingham's books [in the right order, which is important] and this is quite possibly the best yet. Not in the least bit slow, nor are the others - I really cannot believe that! He is one of the very few current crime writers whose form hasn't taken a nosedive. This one is highly recommended!

`Drop Shot' is the second book in the Myron Bolitar series, written by Harlan Coben. The story begins when during a big match at the US Open, a tennis star is gunned down and killed. The lead suspect is the player who was playing on the main court during the shooting. The suspect is also Myron's client, so he goes on the hunt for the killer, getting on the nerves of everyone involved on his way, which leads him to an older murder from six years ago.

I recently read the first book in the series, Deal Breaker, and absolutely loved it and started reading this immediately afterwards and although the story was fast paced and exciting, with some excellent characters and some wonderful and witty dialogue, I had guessed who the killer was and what the twist ... This was really very good but I wanted the author to spend less time on the background of Snowman and Crake and, without giving anything away, more on what happened to result in Snowman living in a tree. I could have read another 100 pages just to be able to know more detail.

The ending was unsatisfactory is a lot of ways but the ending also resulted in the book lasting longer than just the time spent reading it. I often pick my next book up straight after finishing the previous book, but with Oryx and Crake I closed the book and just pondered it for some time.

There are many unanswered questions that result from reading the book but I think that may be a trait of Margaret Atwood. This is the second Atwood book I've read. The other book left me feeling ... Read More:

My mum lent me this when I was staying at hers and having finished Sniper One (see other review) in two days I was stuck for something to read. Not my usual choice, but I found it enjoyable and it is now my guilty secret.

The Cavanaghs were a large family of Irish immigrants struggling in London's East End at the turn of the century. When the no-good drunkard father is offered two pounds a week for the "services" of his eldest daughter by the wealthy Henry Dumas he readily agrees. On reaching puberty, Eileen is callously discarded and her younger sister, the ambitious Briony, seizes her chance for a shot at the good life and takes her place with the reluctant consent of her mother. She unfortunately becomes pregnant and with nowhere to turn, she accepts Isabel Dumas' offer to ... Read More:

I picked this book up by change as I like this genre of thrillers. And it follows the expected pattern: a religious secret of the Catholic Church - why is it actually always the Catholic Church? - , short chapters, different guys following the same story from different angels. All is based on a short of feeling that the CC is not honest and that much of Christian believes are based on lies. Fiction and facts nicely mixed. I do not think that this was very original, but still it is what I expected and why I wanted to read it in the first place. So no need for disappointment. I am not at all bothered what is true or not as long as it makes a good story. This is a thriller and not a serious religious book. There were rather a few twists - especially at the end - which came as a surprise and are ... Read More:
