Excellent series. If this is the first one you have read then you might wonder what all the fuss was about. As part of the series it is excellent. Not his best but better than the rest (authors)

I thought that the last novel in the Chief Inspector Banks series lacked energy but was hopeful that he would back on form in this. Not so, I honestly believe that Robinson is writing in the wrong genre. This is loosely a crime/police procedural novel. It is more about Banks himself, his ability to balance his personal relationship and job and the changes in him that have taken place over time. In this novel nothing happens outside of the police characters' lives - no tension built up but a rather incredible story line around the MI6 which sees Banks dealing with unbelievable shadowy forces. The music references are annoying. A sergeant goes in to interview a person at home and ends up reflecting upon the music he plays and thinks ... Read More:

This is one of the very best books I have ever read. Unlike some of her other books this one is not gruesome, so will appeal to the more squeamish reader like myself. It is absolutely brilliant and the twist to the story is totally unexpected. Fascinating and unputdownable!

Excellent reading with a couple of twists. Loved it right to the end and would now like to know what happened to Dennis. Recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers/murders/whodunits.

I read Sam Bourne's 'The Righteous Men' and then 'The Final Reckoning' and was captivated by both and had high expectations for 'The Last Testament' but sadly, these expectations were not met. The plot was a little too predictable and was filled with some useless points to the plot - I won't give anything away. Let's say I wasn't as hooked as I have been with previous books of Bourne's. I'd rate this as the worst of his books... But if you need something to read on a plane/train or on a long car journey, I wouldn't disregard it completely.
