This is the first Lee Child book I've read, and it won't be the last.

The plot is well-structured and well-paced, and the characters are likeable, believable and well-described. The end twist is quite well-done, and less predictable than other reviewers have made out (it may be more obvious for regular Child readers).

That said, this book is not without its faults. I found it quite difficult to get into at the start, and the female agent love interest is not particularly believable, nor is it neccessary (when are they I ask myself). It ends a little too quickly for me aswell.

That said, these are minor points really, the central story is very well-done. This is a definite page-turner, and keeps you coming ... Read More:

I am an avid fan of Karen slaughter and have read all of the grant county novels, as a whole these novels are an amazing read.
the characters are believable and vivid, with the undertone of the love story between Jeffery and Sarah being a big draw for me.
the stories are incredibly tragic and heart wrenching but addictive!

I was very excited to read this latest instalment and find out about Lena and Jeffery's life's once more, and i wasn't disappointed throughout the book, i loved the way it was written allowing you to piece together the events yourself as you read.
the only disappointment for me was the ending! its more of a personal reaction on my part but still i longed for something more.
however ... Read More:

I see all the excellent novels passed over on both the long and short lists for the Booker, then along comes a derivative, self-important book like this and I admit I feel a bit aggrieved. A 10-year-old who starts a detective agency with a stuffed monkey but is her school's second smartest student? The character of Kate is so badly constructed that she's totally unbelievable. Her age level seems to vary between 4 and 40. As for the rest of the book, come on, some people actually like to shop, and work, at the mall. It's not Sartre's no exit, it's a shopping center. I'm so bored with immature writers scribbling as if any place that gives people the opportunity to buy things in multiple shops rather than the over-priced high street with its dusty goods ... A cracking story where Nick Stone fails in protecting a journalist and camerman in Iraq, with one killed, and one kidnapped. The two had been investigating drug trafficking and that is where Stone picks up the trail taking him to Dublin, London and then Kabul for a climax where he runs from the Taleban, fights the Bin Laden bounty hunters, gets rendition treatment of terrorists, and takes on the establishment. Yes- a great story. My only critisism is that opening in Iraq drags a bit before the plot thickens but then the downtown Kabul insights are top-notch, and make the book well worthwhile.

If you've stumbled into Scarrow after reading everything that O'brien, Forrester and Cornwell have to offer then this novel maybe the one where your reservations are finally justified. Trite and unconvincing, I'm heartily sick of Cato's 21st century attitude to the injustices of Rome, at one point he even goes on about Rome's Moral responsibilities to the world!!! Pah! I want to read about big battles with barbarians in distant lands.

I wouldn't mind but it's badly written too.

It's become quite popular, it seems. Going back in time. Reviewing beginnings. Take Smallville, the early years of Superman. Or Enterprise, the pre-Shatner Star Trek universe. And then there's Casino Royale, the Bond movies going back to his early Secret Service days. Here, Lee Child does something similar with his hero, telling us about Jack Reacher's time in the Army - at the beginning of the 1990s, as the Berlin Wall started coming down - before he became a rootless civilian.

We get the usual clipped prose leavened with irony and wit. Reacher is a hard man and doesn't like bad people. So when he finds himself mysteriously re-assigned out of Panama to a relative backwater, he starts asking questions - until he is called out to investigate the apparent natural ... Read More:

Searching for truffles in a local wood, a man and his dog unearth a human hand. That hand eventually turns into an entire skeleton when the police dig up the surrounding ground. An entire skeleton robed in a decaying purple sheet, a cracked rib the only sign that the body might have met a death by violence. Investigations reveal that the body has been interred since a trench was dug 11 years ago in order to prepare to build houses the planning permission for which was later denied. However, the identity of the corpse remains a complete mystery. Then, a second body is found in a nearby abandoned house, and that has been there for many years as well...

Not in the Flesh is something like Rendell's 56th book, her 21st Wexford story. So far, the reviews I have seen have not ... Read More:

After the criminally misunderstood Back to Bologna, Dibdin returned to a more traditional (by his standards, in any case) tone for what would sadly prove to be his last Aurelio Zen novel (and, to get this straight: this is all Dibdin's work. The proofs were released a good while before he died, and, I had finished my copy the very day before he passed away. So no more mumbling about it being completed post-mortem, please.) It still has the cruel wit of the previous novel, but lacks the elements of farce and pastiche which made Back to Bologna such an unconventional work in his canon. And, as a result, is far more likely to be appreciated both by existing fans and newcomers. Indeed, in tyhat traditional sense End Games is a complete return to his novels of old, prior to And Then You Die, ... Read More:
