191.Mathematica Navigator: Graphics and Methods of Applied Mathematics by: Heikki Ruskeepaa

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Mathematica Navigator: Graphics and Methods of Applied Mathematics
Mathematica is an excellent program, with good built-in and online documentation - although many feel the Documentation Centre in version 6 is not as good as the Help Browser in version 5.2. But sooner or later you will find a problem for which the official Mathematica documentation does not help. The program can then be very frustrating, as the syntax is complicated and error messages can be very cryptic. Help online is painfully slow, as the official resource, the news group comp.soft-sys.math.mathematica (Mathgroup), is moderated, so help requests have to be approved before they will appear. Hence Mathematica users will need one or more good books - more so than with other similar programs where there are popular online community resources. ... Read More:

This text is the perfect introduction to the field of security protocols. It is concise enough to serve as a readable introduction to protocol design but encyclopedic enough to serve as an ongoing reference.

The book covers details of security goals, types of attacks etc., and gives descriptions of over 170 protocols. It is particularly pleasing to see a treatment of `forward secrecry', a property much neglected in other texts. Also of note are the sections on formal and complexity-theoretic protocol analysis; whilst these sections act only as primers their inclusion should help make protocol designers aware of the need for proofs of correctness.

Far less intimidating (and much shorter than) Schneier's "Applied Cryptography" ... Read More:

Used Price: £17.42

An introduction for readers with some high school mathematics, to both the higher and the more fundamental developments of the basic themes of elementary problems, concealing more advanced mathematical ideas. These are then made explicit and further developments are explored, thereby deepening and broadening the readers' understanding of mathematics. The text arose from a course taught for several years at St. Petersburg University, and nearly every chapter ends with a commentary on the relevance of its subject matter to the actual classroom setting. However, it could be read by a wider audience, including the professional mathematician.
A very good text.
