If you are looking for a Thailand travel book, this is it. The many beautiful pictures and the well written articles on every aspect of Thai culture are invaluable for the traveller or the person who simply dreams of exotic locales. Definitely a must purchase!

This guide starts with a very interesting history of the city. The information is given in a very detailed yet accesible fashion throughout the book. It is presented by dividing the city up into seven areas and it gives a complete overview of the history and sights of the areas. It recommends some superb restaurants and hotels (though we had already booked when we bought the guide so i cannot comment on the hotels it recommends). It also gives suggested walks around the city and day trips out of the city complete with mini guides to such places as Haarlem and Utrecht. My Mom and I used this book on a recent visit to Seville. Using the detailed maps we were able to navigate even the tiniest roads in the old town. I was continually surprised when I would say, "on the next corner is the [whatever we wanted to find]" and it was always there. That's a great recommendation! With the beautiful pictures and good basic summaries of things to see and do, we were able to choose exactly how to spend our time - and we weren't lead astray. Restaurant recommendations were also very fair and accurate - and we dined superbly. I now always check to see if there's an Eyewitness Guide for somewhere I'm traveling.

As the most beautiful city I have ever visited (indeed, perhaps the most beautiful city in the world), many guidebooks do not do St. Petersburg justice. Instead they choose to focus on a country in economic and political turmoil and a city with decaying buildings from a former era. Whether you believe these judgements or not (personally, I think the buildings in central St. Petersburg are in excellent condition), they do not exactly fill you with excitement about seeing the city's wonders (of which there are many) and make you feel like it was worth shelling out all that money to come on holiday here. An excellent guide. Quick and easy to find things to see and do. Excellent suggestions. Enough information to keep you going, without overloading you with stuff to wade through. Perfect for a weekend break - and not too heavy to stuff in your bag. Maps are excellent. Loads of mini-maps inside too so, if you decide you want a cafe for lunch, flick to 'top10 cafes' and not only are there great suggestions, but there's a little map so you can work out which one is closest. A real find!

I love DK eye witness normally...but I fell into a trap on this one..Look at the publish date - feb 2004. It's over 4 years out of date now - I rely on these guides for hotel/restaurant information. In 4 years much can happen. I appreciate that much of the information is still extremely relevant(hence 3 stars) but disapponited these guides are not updated yearly.
